Navigation System DTC Troubleshooting: 1801

DTC 1801: HIP Error

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first.

- Before you troubleshoot, make sure to follow the general troubleshooting information. How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System (With Navigation)

- Check for and resolve any B-CAN DTCs before troubleshooting.

- Check any official Honda service web site for any service information about the AcuraLink.

1. Check the most recent DTC. How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System (With Navigation)

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode, then back to ON (II), or the ON mode.

3. Check the most recent DTC. How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System (With Navigation)

Is DTC 1801 indicated at the time you cycled the vehicle?
YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.


4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

5. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P), and audio-navigation unit connector H (28P).

Are the connections OK?
YES - Go to step 6.

NO - Repair poor connections or loose terminals in the applicable connector.


6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

7. Check for XM (HIP) communication with the HDS.

Does the XM (HIP) communicate with the HDS?
YES - Go to step 8.

NO - Go to the AcuraLink control unit troubleshooting.


8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

9. Disconnect the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and audio-navigation unit connector H (28P).

10. Check for continuity between the terminals of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) according to the table.





Is there continuity between any of terminals?
YES - There is a short in the wires between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO - Go to step 11.






11. Check for continuity between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) terminals No. 17, No. 18, No. 19, and No. 20 to body ground individually.

Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO - Go to step 12.






12. Connect AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) terminals No. 17, No. 18, No. 19, and No. 20 to body ground with jumper wires.






13. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector H (28P) terminals No. 9, No. 10, No. 22, and No. 23 to body ground individually.

Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the audio-navigation unit. Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation)

NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
