Removing the rear windshield
Remove:
- the stop lamp
- the panels. See Panel, tailgate, replacing
- the tailgate wiper. See Tailgate wiper arm / blade, replacing Tailgate Wiper Arm/Blade, Replacing.
Disconnect the heating cables for the rear windshield.
Insert a wire inserter in the upper left-hand corner as illustrated.
Cut off approximately four meters of wire from the roll.
Secure the wire and pull the ends approximately 50 cm into the car.
Pull the wire around and downwards so it forms an eyelet around the outside of the windshield.
Check that the wire is at the bottom against the bead of adhesive.
Stretch the wire so it is still in position at the bottom. Pull in the excess from one end of the wire.
Position the winches as illustrated. Secure the long end of the wire in the right-hand winch. Raise about 20 cm.
Check that the loose end of the wire is not slipping.
Secure the other end of the wire to the left winch.
Wind in the wire using both the winches until the wire is against the locating pins at (1).
In order to clear the locating pin, detach the wire from the right-hand winch and insert it on the other side of the locating pin (2).
Remove the wire from the right-hand winch and pull the wire out on the outside.
Press in the needle (special tool 951 2337 Spike 951 2337 Spike ) below the locating pin.
Insert the wire through the hole in the needle. Pull out the needle.
Move the right-hand winch to its new position (see the illustration). Wind in the rest of the wire.
The window is now only secured by a small amount of the PUR bead at the right-hand locating pin.
Use a knife to cut through the final part of the bead.
Installing the rear windshield in the tailgate
Always ensure that a side window is open so that the bonded window does not jump out of position when a door is closed.
When working with PUR adhesive on the body flange, see PUR on body flange PUR On Body Flange.
Clean the area on the window to which PUR adhesive is to be applied with cleaner-H (black cap).
Apply glass activator (yellow cork) and glass primer (green cork) to the same surface. Use plenty of glass primer, but do not let it run.
Let the primer dry until the surface is matte.
Apply PUR rim activator (blue cork) to the remaining PUR bead on the tailgate if the windshield has been removed for more than eight hours.
Apply adhesive to the tailgate.
Note! The top of the windshield must be position first so that it clears the projecting section of the tailgate.
Press the window into place by hand.
Check that the window is aligned with the door.
Secure with tape.
