Raise the vehicle. See: Jacking points, body Service and Repair.
Remove the wheel.
Push the suspension up to the specified measurement to detach the screwed joint between the control arms/struts. See Tensioner 999 5659, User instructions Removal and Replacement.
Removal
Removing the wheel spindle
Push up the rear end with: 999 5659 Tension caliper 999 5659 Tension Caliper to a measurement of 500 mm between the fender's edge and the center of wheel hub.
Remove:
- the Handbrake cable from the mounting in the track rod
- the screw for the drive shaft - wheel hub (1)
- the screw for the track rod mounting (2)
- the screw for the control arm mounting (3)
- the nut for the anti-roll bar link mounting (4). Counterhold using a Torx spanner so that the boot does not rotate
- the screw for the lateral link mounting (5).

Place: 998 5972 JACK 998 5972 Jack under the wheel spindle and raise carefully.
Note! Pull out the drive shaft from the wheel hub whilst raising the stub axle. Angle the shaft past the stub axle.
Release the tensioner so that the control arm hangs in the shock absorber.
Removing left-hand drive shaft from final drive housing
Caution! Do not damage the drive shaft seal.
Use a large screwdriver. Position the screwdriver tip between the constant velocity joint housing and the final drive housing.
Knock so that the drive shaft snap releases. Pull out the drive shaft.
Install: 999 7060 Plug 999 7060 Plug.
Removing right-hand drive shaft from final drive housing
Use 999 7160 Key 999 7160 Key. Drive out the shaft with a distinct blow.
Note! The tool is used as a wedge.
Install: 999 7060 Plug 999 7060 Plug.
Installation
Installing the drive shaft in the final drive housing
Note! Always replace the drive shaft snap ring with a new one.
Lubricate the mating surfaces of the drive shaft. Use final drive oil.
Securely press the drive shaft into the final drive housing. Check that the snap ring is in the groove in the final drive by pulling the constant velocity joint on the drive shaft.
Installing the drive shaft on the wheel hub
Lubricate the drive shaft splines using a small amount of oil.
Position the drive shaft in the wheel hub. Carefully lower the mobile jack.
Remove the mobile jack.
Press up the control arm and tensioner to the previous specified measurement so that the screws can be installed.
Note! After installing the screws, press 999 5659 Tension caliper 999 5659 Tension Caliper up to normal position, see: Tensioner 999 5659, User instructions Removal and Replacement , before tightening the screws
Install:
- 1 M12 screw for the lateral link mounting (5). Tighten
- 1 M12 nut for the lateral link mounting (4). Tighten. Counterhold using a Torx spanner so that the boot does not rotate
- 1 M12 screw for the lateral link mounting (3). Tighten
- 1 M12 screw for the track rod mounting (2). Tighten
- 1 M10 screw to the drive shaft - wheel hub (1). Tighten
- the Handbrake cable and mounting for the track rod.
Remove the tensioner.
Installing wheels
Install the wheel. See: Installing wheels Service and Repair.
