Headliner: Service and Repair






Headlining with sun roof

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Adjusting seats and steering wheel




Fold all the backrests to the semi-reclined position.
Lower the steering wheel to its lowest position.
Ignition off.
Disconnect the battery negative cable. See: Battery Disconnecting

Removal

Removing the headlining

Remove:
- the windshield. See: Windshield Windshield
- the sun visors. See: Sun visor Sun Visor
- the front courtesy lighting. See: Lighting, internal front Lighting, Internal Front
- the A-post panel. See: A-pillar trim panel A-Pillar Trim Panel
- the C-pillar's upper panel acc. to C-pillar trim panel C-Pillar Trim Panel.




Remove the grab handles, 2 screws per handle.




Remove the molding around the sun roof (if applicable).

Hint: Note the position of the join (1) on the molding.

Remove:
- the rear courtesy lighting (2). See: Rear interior light Rear Interior Light
- the cover for the front mass movement sensor (MMS) (3)
- the roof clip (4)
- the D-pillar's panel acc. to Panel, D-pillar D-Pillar Panel.
If the vehicle has front and rear cargo net mountings, remove the screws, 1 for each mounting. Remove the cargo net mountings.
Disconnect the headlining at the B-post panel.
Lower the headlining over the seats.

Caution! Do not crease the headlining. There is a risk of creases as the headlining is very rigid.

Remove:
- the washer hose at the A-post
- the washer hose at the cantrail panel.

Note! Risk of spills.

Release the cable harness from the headlining.

Note! Note the position of the cable harness.

Push the cable harness to one side.
Move the headlining out through the windshield opening.

Transferring components

Transferring cargo net mountings
Transfer the front and rear cargo net mountings. They are positioned on the headlining outside the vehicle.

Transferring components that are to be hot-bonded




The surround for the cover (2) for the mass movement sensor (MMS). It is hot-bonded outside the vehicle.
The rear foam block by the reading lamp. It is hot-bonded outside the vehicle.

Transferring components that are to be taped
Use tape P/N 951 1099.
Tape the washer hoses in place outside the vehicle, or together with the cable harness inside the vehicle.
Tape the cable harness in position in the vehicle.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications. [1][2]Body and Frame

Installing the headlining
Install the sun roof molding (if applicable) on the sun roof frame.

Note! Use a new molding.

Insert the headlining through the windshield opening.
Tape the cable harness to the headlining. See the previous instructions for transferring components.

Install:
- the cover for the mass movement sensor (MMS)
- the rear interior lighting acc. to Rear interior light Rear Interior Light
- the 1 clip. Press into place
- the M6 screws, 1 for each mounting, for the front and rear cargo net mountings (if applicable). Tighten
- the grab handles, 2 screws per handle. Tighten
- the washer hose at the A-post. Press into place
- the washer hose at the cantrail panel. Press into place
- the D-post panel. See: Panel, D-pillar D-Pillar Panel
- the C-post upper panel. See: C-pillar trim panel C-Pillar Trim Panel
- the A-post panel. See: A-pillar trim panel A-Pillar Trim Panel
- the front courtesy lighting. See: Lighting, internal front Lighting, Internal Front

- the battery negative lead. See: Battery Disconnecting
Secure the headlining to the sun roof molding using the pull-cord.
Install the windshield. See Windshield Windshield.
