Frozen Values for the Transmission Control Module (TCM), Description

Frozen values for the transmission control module (TCM), description

General
Frozen values are parameter values that are stored when a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored.
Not all the parameters described need to be implemented in the control module. This varies from system to system. Parameters can also vary depending on which type of transmission the car has.
Certain parameters can be displayed without a value or with implausible values. This can occur if the control module has not stored a value, when a base value has been stored instead or if the parameter is received via the CAN network when there is an error on the CAN network. For example, the transmission speed value may be excessive if the fault occurs for the transmission speed sensor.

Definition of an operating cycle
The definition of an operating cycle varies depending on the software version.

Alternative definitions
- The ignition has been switched off, then switched on and finally switched off again
- The ignition has been switched off, the engine started and finally the ignition switched off again
- The ignition has been off, the engine started, the car driven at a speed above 30 km/h for more than 3 minutes and finally the ignition switched off again.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) the frozen values are stored for.

Counter 2
Counts the number of operating cycles in which the tests have been completed without the fault being detected again. If the value is zero there is a fault or the control module test for the fault has not been carried out.

Engine, status
The value indicates the status of the engine when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
OFF = Engine not running.
On = Engine running.

Outside temperature
The value indicates the outside temperature when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the Control Area Network (CAN) from the central electronic module.

Counts - the operating cycles since the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was first/last stored
The value indicates the number of operating cycles since the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) wasfirstorlaststored.

Time since the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was first/last stored
The time in hours since the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) wasfirstorlaststored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the Control Area Network (CAN) from the central electronic module. The time is the total time that the central electronic module has been running.
The difference between the "last" time and the "first" time is the time from the when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was first stored to when it was last stored. If the same amount of hours are displayed, the fault has only been detected once.

The voltage in the central electronic module when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was first/last stored
The value indicates the voltage in volts thefirstorlasttime the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the Control Area Network (CAN) from the central electronic module.

Total mileage since the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was first / last stored
The value indicates the mileage in kilometers and miles thefirstandlasttime the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the Control Area Network (CAN) from the central electronic module.

Passenger compartment temperature
The value indicates the passenger compartment temperature when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the Control Area Network (CAN) from the central electronic module.

Oil temperature
The value indicates the temperature of the transmission fluid. The value is calculated based on the oil temperature sensor signal.

Gear ratios
The value indicates the transmission gear ratio.

Expected gear ratio
The value indicates the gear ratio anticipated by the transmission control module (TCM).

Calculated speed of the signal from the transmission speed sensor (output speed)
The value indicates the calculated speed based on the signal from the transmission speed sensor (output speed).

Speed signal, calculated from the engine speed (RPM)
The value indicates the speed, calculated using the engine speed.

Gear according to the shift solenoids
The value indicates the selected gear (according to the gear solenoids). The value indicated depends on the transmission type.
The following values can be displayed: Back-up (reverse) gear, Gear 1, Gear 2, Gear 3, Gear 4, Gear 5.

Gear-shift position sensor
The value indicates the gear-shift position sensor gear-shift position sensor based on the signal from the gear selector assembly. The following values can be displayed: P, R, N, D, 4/Tip, 3/Tip, 2, L.

Accelerator pedal (AP) position
The value indicates the position of the accelerator pedal (AP). The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the Control Area Network (CAN) from the central electronic module.

Transmission speed sensor, output speed
The value indicates the output speed from the transmission speed sensor.

Transmission speed sensor, input speed
The value indicates the input speed from the transmission speed sensor. The speed can be generated with the engine idling and the gear selector in P/N position. If the gear selector is in any other position, a gear is engaged and the transmission input shaft is connected to the output shaft and an RPM will not be indicated until the car is driven. Depending on slippage in the torque converter the transmission speed and the engine speed will differ when the lock-up function is not engaged. With lock-up engaged the transmission speed should be the same as engine speed (RPM).

Gear-shift position sensor, position
The value indicates the calculated position of the gear-shift position sensor. The following values can be displayed: P, R, N, D, 4/Tip, 3/Tip, 2, L.

Engine speed (RPM)
The engine control module (ECM) transmits the engine speed (RPM) on the Control area network (CAN) from which the transmission control module (TCM) retrieves the signal which it then compares with its own speed sensor signal.
The value indicates the engine speed (RPM).

Position of the gear-shift position sensor ABCPA
The value indicates the position of the gear-shift position sensor. See the table below.
• = High signal
- = Low signal (grounded)

System voltage
The value indicates the system voltage. The value is given in volts (V).

Engine torque
The value indicates the engine torque. The value is given in Nm.

Engine coolant temperature (ECT)
The engine control module (ECM) transmits a signal indicating the engine coolant temperature (ECT) on the Control area network (CAN). The value indicates the temperature. The value is given in °C.

Kickdown, status
The engine control module (ECM) transmits a signal indicating the accelerator pedal (AP) position. During rapid acceleration, with the accelerator pedal (AP) almost fully depressed, the transmission control module (TCM) receives a signal about kickdown.
Off = Kickdown is not activated.
On = Kickdown is activated.

Gear according to solenoids
The value indicates the calculated gear position according to the control module. The value indicated depends on the transmission type.
The following values can be displayed: Back-up (reverse) gear, Gear 1, Gear 2, Gear 3, Gear 4, Gear 5.
