Headlining, replacing
Removing the headlining
For model years up to and including 2002 which have the older headlining, remove the roof module according to Interior lighting and upper electronic module (UEM), replacing Service and Repair.
For model years 2002 onwards which have the new headlining, remove the roof module according to Interior lighting, replacing Interior Lighting, Replacing.
Remove:
- the sun visor. See Sun visor, replacing Sun Visor, Replacing
- the A-post panel. See Replacing the A-post panel Panel, A-Post, Replacing
- The B-post panel. See Panel, B-post, replacing Panel, B-Post, Replacing
- the C/D-post panel. See Panel, C-post, replacing Panel, C-Post, Replacing
- the grab handle.
- the connector at the A-post
- the connector at the sun roof.
Disconnect the cable harness.
Pull out the headlining through the tailgate.
- the connector at the sun roof.
- the sun roof surround:
Pull inwards into the car.
- 3 clips at the rear edge of the headlining:
Turn the clips a 1/4 turn. Pull straight down.
Fold the backrest for the left front seat towards the rear seat cushion.
Move the gear selector to its rearmost position.
Remove the passenger seat. See Lifting the front seats in and out Removal and Replacement.
Carefully remove the headlining through the passenger door.
The headlining can be bent slightly so that it can be removed through the door opening.
Installing the headlining
Install:
in reverse order.
(Cars without sun roofs: Remove the spacer.)
Note! Certain components must be transferred when replacing the headlining.

Caution! Do not damage or trap any cables when installing the sun visors.
