Connecting the breakout box
- Ignition off. Wait until the gear selector's indication or lighting goes off (normally takes approx. 7 seconds). If the gear selector's indication or lighting is not on from the beginning due to some malfunction, wait for 3 minutes from the time that the ignition is turned off.
- Expose the transmission control module (TCM) according to: Transmission control module (TCM), replacing Service and Repair
Note! When measuring on the connector A (not against the transmission itself), then the transmission control module (TCM) does not have to be disconnected from the transmission. If the control module is not disconnected, no calibration is needed.
- Remove the connectors from the transmission control module (TCM).
- Check that the male and female pins on the control module, the control module's connectors and on the transmission are intact and securely in place (cannot be pressed in). Check that the cables to the female pins are connected securely.
- Especially check the pins that are in question for the diagnostic trouble code/symptom. See also: Signal description Signal Description. Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Connect adapter 951 2904 TCM adapter 951 2904 TCM Adapter to connector A and adapter 951 2975 TCM adapter AWF21 951 2975 TCM Adapter AWF21 to connector B on the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or transmission, and connect breakout box 951 1428 Breakout box 951 1428 Breakout Box to the adapter.
- The breakout box is designed to facilitate the reading of control module input and output signals when the control module is connected as well as the resistance of cables and components when the control module is disconnected. Using the breakout box reduces the risk of unintentionally short-circuiting cables or damaging pins in the connectors.
Caution! When taking readings with the ignition on, first connect the engine control module (ECM) and its connectors, then switch on the ignition. After taking readings, check diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for systems connected to the high speed section.
