Drive shaft right, replacing

Special tools:
999 5488 PLUGS 999 5488 Plugs
999 5682 Tensioner band 999 5682 Tensioner Band

Removal

Preparatory work





Remove:
- the drive shaft from the wheel hub. See Drive shaft left, replacing Drive Shaft Left, Replacing
- the splash guard under the engine.

Removing the drive shaft from the gearbox




Position a container under the gearbox to collect the oil (Applies to cars with manual and automatic AW50-42 transmissions).
Remove the bearing cap from the support bearing for the drive shaft.
Pull the drive shaft out of the gearbox.

Note! Pull the inner section of the drive shaft closest to the gearbox when removing it. There is no axial stop in the inner joint.

Note! Take care not to damage the drive shaft when removing it from the gearbox.

Install: 999 5488 PLUGS 999 5488 Plugs to the transmission (Applies to vehicles with manual and automatic transmission AW50-42).

Installing the drive shaft in the gearbox




Lubricate the drive shaft mating surface. Use wheel bearing grease P/N 116 1241-3 (80 g).
Install the drive shaft on the gearbox and the mounting for the pilot bearing with the bearing cap and the 2 M8 screws. Tighten.
Install the drive shaft to the wheel hub. See: Drive shaft left, replacing Drive Shaft Left, Replacing.

Checking the gearbox fluid level

Check the oil level. See:

Installing other components





Install:
- the splash guard under the engine
- the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.

Checking the gearbox fluid level

Note! Only applies to cars with AW 50-42 automatic transmissions.
