Description of parameters

Parameters, status

General
Certain values deviate from those contained in the signal specifications, see Signal description. Transmission control module (TCM), AW50/51 AWD, AW55-50/51SN Signal Description. Transmission Control Module (TCM). This is because read off values are calculated and filtered by the control module. In certain cases the engine must be running to obtain the relevant values.

Shifting program according to the gear-shift position sensor
The value P/R/N/D/4/3/L displays the shifting program selected by the gearbox control module (TCM), based on the signals from the gear-shift position sensor. If the signals from the gear-shift position sensor are outside the normal range and a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored, the gearbox control module (TCM) selects Limp home mode.
Depending on what gear selector assembly the car is equipped with:
P/R/N/D/4/3/L = normal gear positions. (Standard)
P/R/N/D/Geartronic = normal gear positions (Geartronic)

Gear-shift position sensor position

Depending on what gear selector assembly the car is equipped with:
P/R/N/D/4/3/L = normal gear positions. (Standard)
P/R/N/D/Geartronic = normal gear positions (Geartronic)
OR/OD/OL = Undefined R, D or L-positions. The signals from the gearshift position sensor are outside the normal range but are not interpreted as a fault. This may be because the gear selector is between positions or that the gearshift position sensor is incorrectly adjusted.

- All diagnostic tests complete.

Parameters, value

Engine speed (RPM)
The engine control module (ECM) transmits the engine speed (RPM) on the Control area network (CAN) from which the gearbox control module (TCM) retrieves the signal which it then compares with its own speed sensor signal.
Measurement range: 0 - 8191 rpm
Idling speed: 850 rpm

Gearbox speed sensor, input speed
The speed can be generated with the engine idling and the gear selector in P/N position. If the gear selector is in any other position, a gear is engaged and the gearbox input shaft is connected to the output shaft and an RPM will not be indicated until the car is driven. Depending on slippage in the torque converter the gearbox speed and the engine speed will differ when the lock-up function is not engaged. With lock-up engaged the gearbox speed should be the same as engine speed (RPM).
Measuring range (rpm): 0 - max. rpm

TCM output speed sensor, calculated speed
The control module receives a signal from the gearbox speed sensor which is affected by a toothed pulse wheel and calculates the vehicle speed based on the signal. The speed sensor is an "active" sensor. The signal oscillates between a peak and a trough value. The control module calculates the speed which is directly proportional to the frequency.
Measurement range: 0 km/h - top speed

Vehicle speed ABS
The ABS control module transmits a signal indicating the vehicle speed on the Control area network (CAN) from where the gearbox control module (TCM) retrieves the signal. The gearbox control module (TCM) compares it with the signal from the gearbox speed sensor.
Measurement range: 0 km/h - top speed

Throttle, position
The engine control module (ECM) transmits the accelerator pedal (AP) position on the Control area network (CAN) from where the gearbox control module (TCM) retrieves the signal. The signal is used to regulate the system pressure in the gearbox.
Measurement range: 0 - 100 %
>99 % = kickdown

Battery voltage
The value indicates battery voltage at the control module.
Measurement range: 0.0 -25.5 V

The oil temperature sensor signal
The value indicates the oil temperature sensor signal. Voltage decreases with increased sensor temperature.
Measurement range: 0.0 -5.0 V
AW 55-50:
Cold gearbox (+20°C): approximately 2.4 V
Hot gearbox (+100°C): 0.3 -0.5 V

Oil temperature
The gearbox control module (TCM) calculates the temperature from the oil temperature sensor signal.
Measurement range: -60 - +180°C

Lock-up solenoid SLU, amperage
The value indicates the amperage passing through the solenoid circuit. A lower amperage gives a higher reference pressure, which gives a higher line pressure.
Measurement range: 0.0-1.5 A
Normal value at closed throttle: approximately 280 mA

Line pressure solenoid SLS, amperage
The value indicates the amperage passing through the solenoid circuit. A lower amperage gives a higher reference pressure, which gives a higher line pressure.
Measurement range: 0.0-1.5 A
Normal value at closed throttle: 280 mA

Line pressure solenoid SLT, amperage
The value indicates the amperage passing through the solenoid circuit. A lower amperage gives a higher reference pressure, which gives a higher line pressure. Solenoid control is directly dependent on the throttle sensor signal. The higher the signal from the throttle sensor the lower the amperage through the solenoid and therefore the higher the line pressure.
Measurement range: 0.0-1.5 A
Normal value at closed throttle: approximately 1000 mA

Gear ratios
The value indicates the gearbox gear ratio. The control module uses the input and output speeds to calculate the gear ratio. For the correct gear ratio see the table below

Expected gear ratio
The value indicates the gear ratio expected by the transmission control module (TCM). Compare the values with the " Gear ratio" table.

Engine torque
The signal displays the calculated output torque of the engine.
Measurement range: -512 - +511 Nm
511 = No torque limiting request

Torque control
Torque reduction occurs through control of the ignition and is used to lower the engine torque while shifting for smoother gearshifts and longer service life. Torque reduction is activated at the same time that shifting starts.
Measurement range: 0 - 511 Nm

Torque limiting requested
The signal displays torque limiting and is used to limit the torque of the engine continuously in those cases where the maximum permitted torque limit of the gearbox would otherwise have been exceeded. To reach the desired reduction level the engine control module (ECM) uses a mixture of ignition reduction and throttle control.
Measurement range: -512 - +511 Nm
511 = No torque limiting request

engine control module (ECM) engine coolant temperature (ECT)
The engine control module (ECM) transmits a signal indicating the engine coolant temperature (ECT) on the Control area network (CAN). The automatic gearbox uses the signal to govern lock-up.
Measurement range: -60 - +195°C

Text transmitted to the driver information module (DIM)
In the event of a service reminder indicator fault, the gearbox control module (TCM) transmits a message to the driver information module (DIM). The text is displayed in the combined instrument panel display.
