Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair






Steering lock

Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.

Removal

Ignition key in position 0.
Remove the sound proofing. See Instrument panel lower Instrument Panel Lower
Remove the steering column covers. See: Panel steering column Panel Steering Column.




Only applies to vehicles equipped with knee bolsters

Note! On certain versions, only stronger brackets have cast cell plastic cushions as knee bolsters. Remove these brackets.

Remove:
- the combined instrument panel. See: Combined instrument panel Combined Instrument Panel
- the knee bolster (1)
- the air duct (2)
- the knee bolster brackets (3).

Removing steering wheel lock




1. The steering column lock must be unlocked and the ignition key in ignition position 0.
2. Remove the connector and the cable harness from the steering column lock.




Remove the 2 x security screws.

Note! Use a ribbed cylindrical puller with corresponding nut.

Maximum drill depth in the screws = 15 mm. Screw dimension = M6.




Remove the steering wheel lock.
Press in the spring pin using a screwdriver. Pull the steering column lock forwards.

Installation

Installing steering wheel lock





Install:
- the steering column lock
- the 2 x security screws. Apply a small amount of locking fluid to the threads of the screws.
Use new screws. Tighten until the wrench grip detaches from the screw.

Install:
- the connector
- the cable harness.

Finishing





Note! Only applies to vehicles with knee bolsters.

Install:
- the knee bolster brackets (3). Tighten the M6 screws.
- the air duct (2)
- the knee bolster (1)
- the combined instrument panel. See: Combined instrument panel Combined Instrument Panel

Note! Applies to all versions.

Install:
- the steering column covers. See: Panel steering column Panel Steering Column
- the soundproofing panel. See: Instrument panel lower Instrument Panel Lower

Ordering software

Note! After replacing the steering wheel lock, new software must be loaded into the steering column lock module (SCL).
