Receiver Dryer: Service and Repair






Receiver drier, replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Draining coolant and removing components

Warning! Follow the safety instructions for work on air conditioning systems. See: Refrigerant, safety regulations Technician Safety Information.

Note! First read the instructions covering slow and fast leaks. See Oil Air Conditioning (A/C) System, Filling

Note! Always plug the pipes and connections when working on the climate control system.

Drain the refrigerant from the system. See Refrigerant, draining Refrigerant, Draining.

Removing the air baffle




Remove the air baffle.

Removing the skid plate




Raise the vehicle.
Remove the 6 screws.
Lift and slide the splash guard forward.

Note! There is a guide sleeve on the upper mounting for the plate. This must be lifted slightly so that the panel can be slid forward.

Removal

Removing the pressure sensor





Remove:
- right-hand A/C pipe connection sleeve, x 1
- the connector of the pressure sensor
- the pressure sensor.




Remove the lower screw, x 1, holding the drier in place.




Lower the vehicle.
Remove the upper right-hand mounting screw, x 1, on the rear side of the condenser.

Removing the receiver drier





Remove:
- the upper right-hand mounting screw, x 1, on the condenser.
- the drier by alternately pulling the drier up and carefully moving it sideways across the car.

Note! If the drier filter is jammed then it can be carefully pried away from the connection/lower mounting on the condenser using a slotted screwdriver.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications [1][2]Body and Frame.

Installing the drier and components
Fill compressor oil in the drier, see: Refrigerant, Filling

Note! Always use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.

Install:
- the drier by pressing it in and screwing in the upper screw at the service valve, x 1, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame and tighten
- upper right mounting screw, 1 x M6.
Use: locking fluid, 1161075
and tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame
- the air baffle around the condenser.
Raise the vehicle.

Install:
- the lower mounting screw to the drier, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame
- the pressure sensor. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame
- the connector
- the A/C pipe with the screw, 1 x M6, and tighten.

Finishing

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications [1][2]Body and Frame.

Filling with refrigerant and leak tracing
Vacuum pump the air conditioning (A/C) system. See: Vacuum pumping Vacuum Pumping.
Fill the system. See: Refrigerant, filling Refrigerant, Filling.
Leak trace the system. See: Leak tracing, fluorescent tracing agent / UV lamp Leak Tracing, Fluorescent Tracing Agent/UV Lamp or: Leak tracing, electronic leak tracer Leak Tracing, Electronic Leak Tracer.

Installing the skid plate
Install and tighten the 6 x M10 screws crosswise.
