Radiator Cooling Fan: Service and Repair






Engine cooling fan (FC), replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Remove the battery lead. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.

Removal

Removing the protective plate (skid plate)




Remove 6 screws.




Lift and slide the splash guard forward.
Remove the protective plate.

Note! There is a guide sleeve on the upper mounting for the plate. This must be lifted slightly so that the panel can be slid forward.

Removing the right charge air hose





For gasoline engines only:
Undo the clamp (1).

Remove:
- the 2 screws (2)
- the charge air hose from the charge air cooler. Bend down the hose and pipe.

Removing the engine cooling fan





For all:
Undo the mounting screws so that the radiator assembly is lowered approx. 20 mm.

Note! Do not remove the screws completely.




Undo the connector and tie straps.
Move aside the cable harness.
Remove the screws of the engine cooling fan mounting.
Detach the hose of the expansion tank from the clip on the engine cooling fan.
Pull the fan upward to release it from the lower mounting.
Remove the fan downward.

Note! Ensure that no hoses are trapped when installing the engine cooling fan (FC).

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications Tightening Torque.

Installing the engine cooling fan




Press down the cooling fan without fitting it into the lower mountings. Press the top edge of the fan forward and raise it so that it can be fitted into the lower mountings.

Caution! Make sure the hood cable is not pinched when the fan is installed.

Install:
- the engine cooling fan.
- the 2 M6 screws.
- the hose of the expansion tank in the fan cowling clip
Tighten the two mounting screws (M8) of the radiator assembly.

Installing the right charge air hose





For gasoline engines only:

Install:
- the charge air hose to the charge air cooler
- 2 M5 screws (2). Tighten the clamp (1).

Installing the protective plate (skid plate)
Raise the protective plate in the bumper shell.
Press forward until the mounting brackets engage in the subframe.
Install the screws, M10.

Finishing
Install the batter cable.
