Brake pipe rear wheel, replacing

Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work




Secure the pedal in the depressed position. Use a pedal jack.
Remove the protective cap from the bleed nipple at the left front wheel.
Install a plastic hose on the nipple. Open the bleed nipple.
Collect the brake fluid in a container.
Shut the bleed nipple.





Remove:
- the screws for the center bearing member
- the screws for the rear cross member.
Slide the rear heat deflector forward over the front heat deflector to expose the right brake pipe.

Remove:
- the brake pipe from the clip
- the brake pipe at the joint.
Remove the screw at the mounting for the fuel filter.
Fold the mounting down.




Disconnect the brake pipe at the bracket.
Remove the brake pipe.

Installation

Installing the brake pipes

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications Tightening Torque.





Note! Seal the ends of the pipe before installing the new brake pipe.

Thread the brake pipe between the bodywork and the fuel lines.
Continue under the parking brake cable and over the muffler down to the other brake pipe.
Remove the seal from the pipe end.

Install:
- the brake pipes. Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque
- the brake pipe and the brake hose in the bracket. Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque.

Note! The brake pipe must not be in contact with the car body. The brake hose must not be twisted.

Install:
- fuel filter
- the M8 screw for the fuel filter mounting.

Finishing
Pull the heat deflector plate to the installation position.

Install:
- the cross member
- the 2 x M8 screws
- the 4 M8 screws for the support for the center bearing.
Remove the pedal jack.
Top up and bleed the braking system. See Brake system, bleeding (using bleeding unit) Brake System, Bleeding (Using Bleeding Unit).

Testing the pressure of the brake system




Depress the brake pedal hard for 30 seconds.
Check that no leakage occurs from the brake nipples, hoses and joints.
Remedy any leakage.
Install the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.

Replacing the brake pipe for the left-hand rear wheel

Preparatory work




Secure the pedal in the depressed position. Use a pedal jack.
Remove the protective cap from the bleed nipple at the left front wheel.
Install a plastic hose on the nipple. Open the bleed nipple.
Collect the brake fluid in a container.
Shut the bleed nipple.

Removing the brake pipe




Separate the brake pipe and the brake hose at the bracket.




Separate the brake pipe at the joint nipple under the car.
Remove the brake pipe from its clips.
Remove the brake pipe.

Installing the brake pipes

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications Tightening Torque.

Note! The new brake pipe must be bent into the correct shape when installing. This is important otherwise the pipe may be subject to stresses when it is in place.

Install:
- the brake pipes. Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque
- the brake pipe and the brake hose in the bracket. Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque.
Remove the pedal jack.

Note! The brake pipe must not be in contact with the car body. The brake hose must not be twisted.

Finishing
Top up and bleed the braking system. See Brake system, bleeding (using bleeding unit) Brake System, Bleeding (Using Bleeding Unit).

Testing the pressure of the brake system




Depress the brake pedal hard for 30 seconds.
Check that no leakage occurs from the brake nipples, hoses and joints.
Remedy any leakage.
Install the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
