Rear Bumper Cover / Fascia: Service and Repair






Casing bumper rear, replacing

The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparations




Open the tailgate and floor hatch (1) and remove the outer side floor (2).




Remove the battery cover and mounting bracket.

Removing the rear bumper casing





Remove:
- the 2 rivets under the car.




- the 4 soundproofing sections (1)
- the 4 nuts.




- the 2 panels.




Disconnect the 2 connectors for the sidemarker lamps.
Release the hidden clips (1), 1 on each side, at the bottom of the casing.

Note! Grasp with both hands and pull straight out.




Continue upwards along the fender extensions and detach the 3 hooks on each side (2).

Caution! Do not only pull the painted panel. Pull the panel/bumper behind it as well.




Then pull out the ends more until the hooks (3) release, 4 on each side.
Release the hooks (4), 2 on each side.
Lift off the bumper.

Transferring components





Transfer:
- the 2 painted panels
- the 2 sidemarker / fog lamps
- the cover for the towing eyelet
- the 3 vertical support struts which are secured with 3 screws and 3 clips
- the 7 hooks for the rear section at the bottom edge.

Hint: Detach the top edge first.

Transfer the bumper padding which is secured at 3 points.

Installing the rear bumper casing

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications [1][2]Body and Frame.

Install:
- the foam for the rear section
- the rear section on the bumper cover.

Hint: First press the upper edge of the rear section into place. Then guide the hooks on the bottom edge of the bumper casing into the rear section and press them into place.

Install:
- the bumper cover
- the 2 connectors
- the 4 M8 nuts. Tighten
- the 2 covers.
Press the sides of the bumper into place.

Install:
- the 2 rivets under the car
- the 4 pre-punched soundproofing sections
- the 1 M8 screw for the battery cover and the bracket. Tighten
- the outer side floor.
Fold down the floor hatch.
