Climate control unit, replacing
Preparations
Note! Read off data from the control module before replacing the control module. This is carried out via VIDA vehicle communication. After replacing the control module, the relevant parameters must be programmed into the new control module.
Before starting work on the climate control system
Caution! Follow the safety instructions for work on air conditioning systems, see , Refrigerant, safety regulations Technician Safety Information.
Note! First read the instructions covering slow and fast leaks. See Oil in the A/C system Service and Repair.
Note! Always plug pipes and connectors when working on the climate control system.
Climate control unit, replacing
Removal
- First read Preparations.
- Work in the engine compartment
- Disconnect the battery lead. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing.
- Drain the refrigerant from the system. See Refrigerant, draining Refrigerant, Draining.
- Clamp the heating hoses using lock grip pliers 115 8957 HOSE PLIERS 115 8957 Hose Pliers
- Disconnect the heater hoses from the heat exchanger by pressing in the hose connector. Turn it to the side so that the hose can be pulled out.
- Plug the pipes for the heat exchanger.
- the cover plate and the rubber seal for the lead-in.
Remove:
- the windscreen wiper. See Wiper mechanism and wiper motor, windshield, replacing Service and Repair
- the cowl, gutter and rain protection. See Cowl, replacing Service and Repair
- the cover for the connectors in the engine compartment-passenger compartment
- The screw for the member
Disconnect the connectors by screwing the connectors upwards so that the threads release. Then remove the connectors.
Additional work in the engine compartment on cars with air conditioning (A/C)
Remove the heat deflector plate on the bulkhead. See Replacing the heat shield for the TXV valve Replacing the Heat Shield for the TXV Valve.
Remove the locking bracket for the refrigerant pipes
- Disconnect the refrigerant pipes from the expansion valve
Work in the passenger compartment
Remove:
- The dashboard and centre console. See Dashboard, replacing Dashboard, Replacing
Note! Move the front seat as far back as possible. Protect the floor and sills.
The climate control unit and the member from the bodywork
Remove:
- the steering column from the member: Remove the four screws which hold the steering column in place. Detach and fold down the steering column.
- the screws to the left and right of the A-post
- the screws to the left and right of the centre console
Remove:
- the air ducts from the floor heater unit
- the floor guttering on the left and right sides
Pull the member for the climate control unit backwards a little.
The climate control unit from the member in the passenger compartment
Remove:
- the tie strap for the cable duct on the passenger side
Remove:
- the cable duct behind and above the climate control unit and on the driver's side
Remove:
- the 2 screws from the climate control unit-member on the passenger side
- the screws connecting the member to the climate control unit on the left and right-hand sides
Remove:
- the switch for the blower fan motor
Lift:
- the cable duct behind / above the member on the passenger side
- the cable duct above and behind the mounting for the member
Loosen:
- the member from the climate control unit
Hold up the member and cable duct on the passenger side. Remove the climate control unit on the passenger side.
Note! Two people required.
Installation
The climate control unit on the passenger compartment member
- Check and replace the floor seals if necessary
Install:
- the front seal for the refrigerant pipe. Check and replace the O-rings.
Position:
- the climate control unit in the car
- the member on the climate control unit
Note! Two people required.
Install:
- the screws and the bracket on the member for the climate control unit
- Install and secure the cable duct.
- Check and position the cables for the radio and the dashboard environment unit.
- Take out the cable for the sensor on the dashboard and light switch.
- Position the member for the climate control unit against the bulkhead
- Check the location in relation to the opening for the coolant and heat exchange pipes.
- Press the member for the climate control unit into position against the bulkhead A-post.
- Secure the member for the climate control unit against the A-post loosely with the screws.
- Secure the member for the climate control on the centre console loosely using the screws.
Tighten:
- the member on the A-post
- the screws on the centre console
- Install the air ducts.

Vacuum pump and test the system. See Refrigerant, draining Refrigerant, Draining
Fill the system with refrigerant. Check for leaks. See Refrigerant, draining Refrigerant, Draining.
Install the battery lead. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing.
Ordering software
Order the software. Software Downloading.
Finishing
After replacing the control module, the following must be carried out.
- Reprogram the customer programmed data.
- Carry out self-adjustment of the damper motor end positions.
- Test drive the car. Check that the function of the engine is OK.
- Then check that no diagnostic trouble codes have been stored during the replacement.
