Note! It is recommended that the anti-theft protection storage compartment is installed at a Volvo workshop to ensure that the installation is carried out correctly.

Note! The anti-theft protection storage compartment must not be installed in the V70 (00-) or V70XC (01-) without armrests.

Note!
Applies to the V70 XC
- The anti-theft protection storage compartment cannot be installed in cars with an integrated car-phone with a handset in the storage compartment.

Points 2-8 apply to the S80. Points 9-28 apply to the V70/V70 XC

- To facilitate installation of the box - make holes in the internal lining cloth using an awl via the inside of the box at the existing holes as follows:
1. applies to all cars
2. applies only to V70 (00-) and V70XC (01-)
3. applies to the S80 only.

Applies to the S80

- Fold the cover for the storage compartment up
- Remove the bottom of the storage compartment by pressing in the catches and pulling the bottom upwards at the front edge. Place the bottom to one side. It will not be reused.

- Remove the two screws holding the rear end of the centre console to the car body.

- Fold out the ashtray
- Press down in the direction of the arrow. Fold the ashtray out further. Remove the ashtray.

- Press the two catches on the holder for the ashtray inwards. Pull the ashtray out.

- Support the centre console at the rear edge so that the two spring nuts (1) on the inside can be removed
- Remove the spring nuts. Place the spring nuts to one side. These will not be used again
- Reinstall the centre console.

- Take the two spacers (1), L=16 mm (5/8"), from the kit. Position the spacers over the holes at the rear edge of the storage compartment.

Hint: Apply soap to the rubber strip to make it easier to install the storage compartment in the centre console locker.

- Press down the storage compartment in the centre console locker
- Install the two short screws (1) from the kit in the front holes in the storage compartment. Tighten the screws a few turns. Use an angled torx screwdriver
- Insert the two remaining screws through the rear holes in the storage compartment and through the two spacers
- Insert the threaded plate underneath the panel where the spring nuts were removed
- Install the screws in the nuts on the threaded plate. Tighten the screws. Use an angled hex socket
- Tighten the front screws
- Reinstall the holder with the ashtray.

Applies to the V70/V70 XC

Applies to the V70 XC

- Remove the panel in front of the gear selector lever. Pry off the panel using a weatherstrip tool.

Applies to the V70 XC

- Remove the panel around the gear selector lever. Press the two catches and pull up the front edge of the panel.

Applies to the V70 XC

- Remove the screws holding the front mounting for the curved handle in the centre console
- Pull off the front mounting from the centre console.

- Detach the end of the centre console at the bottom edge. Carefully pry off each side using a weatherstrip tool. Fold the centre console upwards.

- Remove the rear end by separating the sides.

- Remove the cover on the rear edge of the centre console by pulling upwards and unhooking the cover at the top edge. Open the ashtray (if applicable) in the rear edge of the centre console. Press the ashtray downwards in its lower mounting. Open the ashtray further and remove.

- Remove the inner holder by pressing the catches downwards at the upper edge until the holder releases. Then pull the holder out.

- Disconnect the connector for the cigarette lighter. Pry the connector upwards slightly until the lug releases. Then pull the connector free by pulling upwards.

Illustration 16B applies to the V70 with a handset in the centre console locker

- Pull off the connector for the handset from the holder and separate.

- Remove the cigarette lighter and the panel. Press in the catches on the sides. Then pry off the panel at the top edge.

- Remove the pad from the bottom of the centre console locker
- Remove the two screws holding the centre console locker at the rear edge of the centre console.

Applies to the V70

- Remove the two screws from underneath the centre console. Remove the centre console locker and the cover from the rear edge of the centre console.

Applies to the V70 XC

- Remove the four screws holding the curved handle and the centre console locker cover at the rear edge of the centre console
- Remove the curved handle and cover.

Applies to the V70

- Remove the centre console locker and cover by pulling up the rear edge. Then pull backwards and lift upwards.

Applies to the V70 XC

- Remove the centre console locker by inserting your hand and pressing in the front end so that the catches release, then press upwards.

Applies to the V70 with a handset in the centre console locker
- Remove the two screws (1) from the front edge of the handset holder
- Remove the handset and holder
- Place the holder to one side. It will not be reused. A new holder must be purchased separately (left-hand drive (LHD) P/N 8641541, right-hand drive (RHD) P/N 8641738).

- Turn the centre console locker upside down
- Drill out the two pre drilled lugs (1). Use a 4 mm (5/32") diameter drill bit. Use a larger drill bit or a counter sink in the hole from inside the centre console locker to guide the screws
- Reinstall the centre console locker in the centre console.

- Take the two spacers (1), L=9 mm (23/64"), from the kit. Position the spacers over the holes at the rear edge of the storage compartment
- Take the two spacers (2), L=20 mm (51/64"), from the kit. Apply butyl tape under the spacers. Secure the spacers over the drilled holes at the front edge of the centre console locker.

Hint: Apply soap to the rubber strip to make it easier to install the storage compartment in the centre console locker.

- Press down the storage compartment in the centre console locker
- Install the two long screws (1) from the kit in the front holes in the storage compartment and through the two spacers. Tighten a few turns. Use an angled torx screwdriver
- Insert the two remaining screws through the rear holes in the storage compartment and through the two spacers
- Insert the threaded plate underneath the panel where the spring nuts were removed
- Install the screws in the nuts on the threaded plate. Tighten the screws. Use an angled hex socket
- Tighten the front screws.

Illustration 27B applies to the V70 with a handset in the centre console locker

Hint: Apply soap to the rubber strip to make it easier to install the storage compartment in the centre console locker.

- Insert the handset connector and rubber grommet in the hole at the rear edge of the centre console locker.

Note! The rubber grommet must not be positioned inside the centre console locker. The cable must not be positioned at the bottom of the centre console locker.

- Stretch the cable for the handset along the back and slightly along the right-hand side of the storage compartment as illustrated, at the same time press the storage compartment into place
- Install the two long screws (1) from the kit in the front holes in the storage compartment and through the two spacers. Tighten a few turns. Use an angled torx screwdriver
- Insert the two remaining screws through the rear holes in the storage compartment and through the two spacers
- Insert the threaded plate underneath the panel where the spring nuts were removed
- Install the screws in the nuts on the threaded plate. Tighten the screws. Use an angled hex socket
- Tighten the front screws.

- Tighten the centre console locker and cover at the rear edge on the centre console. Applies to the V70 XC: At the same time press in the front mounting for the curved handle at the front edge of the centre console
- Reinstall the cigarette lighter and panel
- Applies to the V70 with a handset in the centre console locker: Connect the connector for the handset to the connector at the rear edge of the centre console. Press the connectors into the holder
- Reinstall the connector for the inner holder in the rear edge of the centre console
- Reinstall the inner holder in the centre console
- Reinstall the ashtray or the cover in the inner holder
- Reinstall the rear end of the centre console.

Applies to the V70 XC
- Tighten the screw in the front mounting for the curved handle
- Reinstall the panel around the gear selector lever
- Reinstall the panel in front of the gear selector lever.

Applies to the V70 with a handset in the centre console locker
- Install the new handset holder according to the appropriate installation instructions.
