Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair






Power steering pump, replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Warning! Used fluid is considerably more dangerous than new fluid. Avoid skin contact with the oil.

Removing drive belt
Remove the drive belt. See: Auxiliaries belt / belt tensioner, replacing, B5244T5, B5254T2 Service and Repair.

Draining oil





Warning! Avoid skin contact with the oil.

Note! Place paper over the generator (GEN) as protection against oil.

Install lock grip pliers on the hose from the fluid reservoir as close to the power steering pump as possible.
Extract the oil.

Removing the pressure hose





Remove:
- pressure hose
- feeder hose.

Removing the power steering pump




Remove the three mounting screws.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the power steering pump




Install the three mounting screws (M8).

Installing the pressure hose





Install:
- feeder hose
- pressure hose (M6)

Note! Use a new O-ring.

Installing drive belt
Install the drive belt. See: Auxiliaries belt / belt tensioner, replacing, B5244T5, B5254T2 Service and Repair.

Finishing





Warning! Avoid skin contact with the oil.

Note! Use Volvo power steering fluid, P/N 1161529 to ensure the correct oil quality.

Fill the servo reservoir with oil. Bleed the system
Repeatedly turn the steering wheel to full lock. Top up the oil if necessary
Apply the handbrake. Start the engine
- A Turn the steering wheel slowly to the right, keep it at the end position for two seconds.
- B Turn the steering wheel slowly to the left, keep it at the end position for two seconds.
Repeat steps A and B ten times.
