Front Seat






Whiplash unit, replacing

Special tools:
951 2943 L-hook 951 2943 L-Hook

This method consists of:
- Whiplash unit non-folding seat, replacement
- Whiplash unit folding seat, replacement.

Whiplash unit non-folding seat, replacement

Important information




Always replace on both sides of the seat, and replace all components included in the repair kit.
The illustration only shows components for non-folding seats and for one side.
The procedure shows replacement on one side of the seat.

Preparatory work

Removing the front seat
Remove the front seat. See: Front seat, replacing Front Seat, Replacing.

Removal

Removing the whiplash unit on non-folding seats




Remove the side panel from the seat and place to one side.
Detach the cover over the screws on the side of the seat.




Remove the 4 screws holding the backrest cushion.
Lay down the backrest cushion on the seat cushion.




Detach the backrest upholstery at the bottom edge. See: Upholstery back rest, replacing Upholstery Back Rest, Replacing.
Release the folding mechanism.




Lift the spring off the stop. Use 951 2943 L-hook 951 2943 L-Hook.




Pull the entire whiplash unit down to release one end of the whiplash element.
Remove the nut and the shaft.

Note! Note the location of the bushing.




Slacken off and remove the upper screw.
Detach the bracket and remove the spring.




Angle out and remove the whiplash element.




Replace the rubber gasket with a new one.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see applicable specifications.

Installing the whiplash unit on non-folding seats




Install a new whiplash element.





Install:
- a new spring
- the bracket
- a new Torx screw and tighten. See the relevant specifications.





Install:
- the shaft
- the bushing
- the lock nut, tighten the M8 screw and the nut. See applicable specifications.




Slide the entire whiplash unit up towards the backrest frame.
Hook on the spring using 951 2943 L-hook 951 2943 L-Hook.
Reinstall the upholstery.

Install:
- the 4 x M10 screws for the backrest frame
- the cover
- the side panel.

Finishing

Installing the front seat

Whiplash unit folding seat, replacement

Important information




Always replace on both sides of the seat, and replace all components included in the repair kit.
The illustration only shows components for folding seats and for one side.
The procedure shows replacement on one side of the seat.

Preparatory work

Removal

Removing the whiplash unit on folding seats




Remove the side panel from the seat and place to one side.
Detach the cover over the screws on the side of the seat.
Release the catches on the reverse of the seat.
Fold the backrest cushion forwards.
Detach the backrest upholstery at the bottom edge. See: Upholstery back rest, replacing Upholstery Back Rest, Replacing.




Release the folding mechanism.




Remove the 4 screws holding the backrest cushion.




Lift the spring off the stop. Use 951 2943 L-hook 951 2943 L-Hook.




Remove the nut and the shaft.

Note! Note the position of the 2 x bushings.




Remove the locking washer at the spring.

Hint: Use cutting nippers to facilitate removal of the locking washer. Then remove the spring.




Angle out and remove the whiplash element.




Remove and replace the rubber gasket with a new one.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see applicable specifications.

Installing the whiplash unit on folding seats




Install a new whiplash element.





Install:
- a new spring
- the locking washer.





Install:
- the shaft
- the bushings
- the lock nut. Tighten the M8 screw and the nut. See applicable specifications.




Slide the entire whiplash unit up towards the backrest frame.
Hook on the spring using 951 2943 L-hook 951 2943 L-Hook.




Reinstall the upholstery.

Install:
- the 4 X M10 screws for the backrest frame
- the cover
- the side panel.

Finishing
