Solenoid Back-Up (Reverse) Inhibitor, Replacing






Solenoid shift lock, replace

Removal

Removing the center console
Remove the center console. See Center console, replacing Service and Repair.

Removing mechanical cable from gear selector assembly




Move the gear selector to position P. This is to access the cable locking.
Remove the mechanical cable lock from the gear selector lever, use pliers and pull the lock off bushing. Pull the striker plate straight up out of the mounting which secures the solenoid.

Removing the solenoid




Carefully pull the solenoid, with its wiring, out of the gear selector assembly.
Disconnect the tab terminals.

Hint: Check that the blade terminal plus (+) and minus (-) are correctly positioned on the solenoid.

Installation

Installing the solenoid




Connect the tab terminals.
Install the solenoid in the gear selector assembly cut-out. The blade terminal and the cable should be upwards in the gear selector assembly.
Secure the solenoid with the bracket.

Installing mechanical cable for gear selector assembly




Install the mechanical cable lock onto the bushing on the mechanical cable.
Press the mechanical cable into place on the gear selector assembly.

Note! Check that the mechanical cable is secure.

Function test
Move the gear selector to position P.
Ignition on.
Press the brake pedal and check that the solenoid releases the gear selector lever and other gear positions can be selected.
