Receiver Dryer: Service and Repair
Receiver drier, replacing

Note! Chassis number limit, see below. XC90 with chassis no. from and including 196988.
Preparations
Read the safety regulations for handling refrigerant acc. to: Refrigerant, safety regulations Technician Safety Information.
Drain the refrigerant from the AC-system acc. to: Refrigerant, draining Refrigerant, Draining.
Remove the right headlight acc. to: Headlight/bulb, replacing Headlight/Bulb, Replacing.
Removing the receiver drier
Remove the splash guard under the car.
Remove:
- the connector for the pressure sensor
- the intermediate pipe acc. to: Pipes receiver drier, replacing, B8444S Pipes Receiver Drier, Replacing
- the pipe coupling from the condenser
- the screw for the bracket
- the receiver drier.
Installing the receiver drier
Note! For tightening torques, see: [1][2]Body and Frame
Note! Always use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.
Position the receiver drier in the bracket so that the pipe from the condenser is correctly positioned.
Install:
- the screw for the bracket
- the screw for the pipe coupling between the condenser and the receiver drier. Tighten.
Tighten the screw for the bracket.
Install:
- the intermediate pipe acc. to: Pipes receiver drier, replacing, B8444S Pipes Receiver Drier, Replacing
- the connector to the pressure sensor on the receiver drier.
Vacuum pump the air conditioning (A/C) system. See: Vacuum pumping Vacuum Pumping.
Fill the AC-system with refrigerant acc. to: Refrigerant, filling Refrigerant, Filling.
Check the AC-system for leaks acc. to: Leak tracing, fluorescent tracing agent / UV lamp Leak Tracing, Fluorescent Tracing Agent/UV Lamp alternatively: Leak tracing, electronic leak tracer Leak Tracing, Electronic Leak Tracer.
Install the right headlight acc. to: Headlight/bulb, replacing Headlight/Bulb, Replacing.
Install the splashguard under the car.
