Rear Bumper: Service and Repair






Bumper rear, replacing

Removing the rear bumper





Remove:
- the floor hatch
- the battery. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing
- the cover and soundproofing on the right-hand side
- the center console locker or the subwoofer
- the sound seals (1) and the 4 nuts. Use a 13 mm long socket.

Hint: Use butyl tape to secure the nuts in the socket. Otherwise the nuts are easy to lose.




Disconnect the connector from the antenna amplifier or remove the screw (3) and remove the bracket.





Remove:
- the four clips on the underside of the bumper
- the rivets (4), 1 on each side. See Removing rivet .




Slacken off the screws (5), 1 on each side, leaving each screw held in place by 3 threads.
Press the screw backwards so that the slide mounting releases.
Press the screw so that the screw head bottoms out.




Pull the bumper backwards while pulling both the sides outwards so that the edges release from the slide mounting.

Hint: This operation is easier with two people.

Installing the rear bumper

Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame.




Align the lugs (6) on the bumper in the channels (7) on the slide mounting. Press at the top so that the lugs secure.

Hint: This operation is easier with two people.

Tighten the screws for the slide mountings on both sides.





Note! Replace the rivets (4) with spring nuts and screws.




Install 1 spring nut on each side.





Install:
- the screws, 1 on each side. Tighten
- the four clips on the underside of the bumper
- the connector for the antenna amplifier or the screw for the bracket
- the 4 M8 nuts. Tighten.

Hint: Use butyl tape to secure the nuts in the socket. Otherwise the nuts are easy to lose.

Install:
- the soundproofing
- the center console locker or the subwoofer
- the cover and soundproofing on the right-hand side
- the battery. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing
- the floor hatch.
