Handsfree equipment, replacing

Microphone rear view mirror, replacing
Removing the microphone, rear view mirror
Remove:
- both the sun visors. See Sun visor, replacing Sun Visor, Replacing
- the roof module
- the connector (2) on top of the headlining.
Remove:
- the cover on the reverse of the mirror
- the spring.
Pull out the microphone.
Installing the microphone, rear view mirror
Install:
- the microphone
- the spring
- the cover
- the connector (2)
- the microphone cable.
Caution! Ensure that the microphone cable is not trapped. The risk areas (1) are marked on the illustration.
Note! Tape the microphone cable securely.
Up to and including 2001 week 34, the hands-free microphone is connected to the phone module (PHM via a connector in the left A-post and a connector in the roof.
From and including 2001 week 35, the hands-free microphone is connected to the phone module (PHM via a connector in the right A-post.
Install:
- the roof module
- the sun visors.
Microphone head restraint, replacing
Note! From and including model year 2005 the microphone in the head restraint will be discontinued.
Removing the microphone, head restraint
Remove:
- the head restraint and the upholstery. See Upholstery head restraint front Upholstery Head Restraint Front
- the tape on the connector.
Disconnect the connector.
Installing the microphone, head restraint
Install:
- the connector
- the tape on the connector
- the head restraint and the upholstery. See Upholstery head restraint front Upholstery Head Restraint Front.
Loudspeaker head restraint, replacing
Preparatory work
Remove:
- the seat from the car. See Lifting the front seats in and out Removal and Replacement for manual seats. See Removing power seats, tilting Removal and Replacement for power seats
- the tie straps for the cable harness on the seat frame
- the connector
- the backrest upholstery. See Upholstery back rest, replacing Upholstery Back Rest, Replacing (-2004) or Upholstery back rest, replacing Upholstery Back Rest, Replacing (2005-)
- the head restraint upholstery. See Upholstery head restraint front Upholstery Head Restraint Front.
Removing the loudspeaker in the head restraint
Remove:
- the tape holding the cable harness
- the loudspeaker.
Hint: The loudspeaker is either secured using cushioned tape against the magnet or using a bonded loudspeaker cage.
Installing the loudspeaker in the head restraint
Install the loudspeaker with the loudspeaker cage in the cutout in the foam rubber. Use hot adhesive.
Caution! Ensure that the loudspeaker cable is not trapped.
Caution! Ensure that no adhesive spills onto the loudspeaker cone.
Tape the cable harness.
Finishing
Install the upholstery for the head restraint. See Upholstery head restraint front Upholstery Head Restraint Front.
Insert the cable harness through the hole for the head restraint in the backrest upholstery.
Position the upholstery on the backrest and install the head restraint.
Tape the cable harness to the foam body of the backrest.
Install:
- the backrest upholstery. See Upholstery back rest, replacing Upholstery Back Rest, Replacing (-2004) or Upholstery back rest, replacing Upholstery Back Rest, Replacing (2005-)
- the tie straps for the cable harness on the seat frame
- the connector.
