Pipes/Hoses, Replacing

Pipes / hoses, replacing

Pipes / hoses

Note! For cars with chassis numbers up to -86697, see Txv-valve and connector pipe TXV-Valve and Connector Pipe.

Before starting work on the compressor or magnetic clutch compressor

Warning! Follow the safety instructions for work on air conditioning systems.

Note! First read the instructions covering slow and fast leaks. See Oil in the A/C system Service and Repair.

Note! Always plug the pipes and couplings when working on the climate control system.

Removal

Common operations
- First read section Before starting work on the compressor or magnetic clutch compressor
- Disconnect the battery negative lead. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing
- Drain the refrigerant from the system.
- Remove the engine stabilizer brace in the engine compartment.

Remove:
- the servo oil reservoir: Place it on top of the engine
- the hose from the expansion tank. Clamp the hose with pliers
- the switch for the level sensor
- the switch at the cable duct
- the expansion tank: Place it on top of the engine.

Remove:
- the intake air pipe for the control module box
- the outlet air pipe to the firewall from the control module box.

- Open the clamp for the refrigerant pipe on the side member.

- Remove the heat shield. See Replacing the heat shield for the TXV valve Replacing the Heat Shield for the TXV Valve.

- Remove the screw and the pipe holder that secure the refrigerant pipe to the expansion valve.
- Detach the pipes from the expansion valve. Carefully pull the pipe holder backward.

- Slacken off the pipe lock on the pipe holder. Remove the lock and the holder.

Hose

Remove:
- the hose / pipe from the member to the compressor
- the pipe from the receiver to the expansion valve: Remove it from the mounting at the junction point
- the pipe from the member at the pipe coupling.
Detach the pipe at the expansion valve

- Position the front section of the pipe above the front cover plate
- Pull the rear of the pipe upwards and outwards. Remove the pipe.

Tube

- Remove the pipe between the expansion valve and the junction point. See Hose
- Remove the air baffles on the left and right sides and the middle. (Work from underneath the car)
- Disconnect the pipe coupling from the receiver. (Work from underneath the car)
- Lower the pipe at the front
- Pull the rear of the pipe upwards and outwards. Remove the pipe.

Installing pipes
- Position the front section of the pipes in the engine compartment
- Position the rear section of the pipes against the firewall.

Note! Use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.

- Carry out other work in reverse order.

Installing hoses
- Position the refrigerant pipe against the firewall
- Position the front section.

Note! Use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.

- Carry out other work in reverse order.
- Vacuum pump the system and leak test.
- Fill the system with refrigerant and check for leaks.
- Connect the battery negative lead. See Battery, replacing Battery, Replacing
Tighten to:
