Replacing the Parking Brake Lever






Replacing the parking brake lever

Removing the center console

Remove the side panels




Turn the screw 1/4 of a turn.
Fold out the panel by the screw. Pull the panel backward (arrow) until it releases.

Remove the gear selector lever boot and the connector




Grasp the boot and lift it straight up to remove the panel.
Remove the ashtray at the rear of the center console.
Remove the ashtray holder (press the two catches).
Remove the holder. Remove and separate the connector from the holder.

Separate the panel and top panel




Press in the four catches. Remove the panel from the top panel on the gear selector lever boot.

Remove the panel (1) over the parking brake lever




Open the cover for the center console locker.
Press in the catch with a screwdriver.
Lift the panel upwards / forwards.

Pull up front edge of the bracket




Install the CD rack in the center console locker.
Remove the four screws for the bracket. Pull its front edge out of its mountings.

Preparations for removing the center console
Move the gear selector lever forward.
Apply the parking brake. Release the adjustment as necessary. See Handbrake, brake shoes, replacing Service and Repair.

Note! Wind masking tape around the parking brake handle to protect it when the center console is removed.

Remove the center console




Pull out the rear edge of the center console.
Carefully push it forward past the lever for the parking brake.
Lift out the bracket.

Replacing the parking brake lever

Remove the parking brake lever




Remove the nut (1) for adjuster for the parking brake. Pull out the cable.
Disconnect the warning lamp connector (2).
Remove the three screws (3) holding the bracket for the parking brake lever. Remove the lever.

Install the parking brake lever





Install:
- the new bracket with brake lever in its mountings. Tighten to 25 Nm (18.4 lb.ft)
- the warning lamp connector
- the cable to the brake lever
- the adjuster nut.

Installing the center console

Install the center console




Move the gear selector lever forward. Apply the parking brake.
Install the center console over the gear selector lever. Locate the parking brake lever in its socket.
Fold the bracket down.

Install the center console




Pull up the front edge of the bracket.
Secure it in its mountings. Tighten the screws to 10 Nm (7.4 lb.ft).
Install the CD rack.
Remove the masking tape from the parking brake handle.

Adjust the parking brake
See Handbrake, brake shoes, replacing Service and Repair.

Install the panel for the parking brake lever






Install the panel and connector




Install the panel over the top panel for the boot. Press together.
Angle in the front edge of the panel. Press down the panel into the center console.
Reinstall connector on the ashtray panel.
Assemble the connector. Reinstall the panel in the center console.
Install the ashtray.

Reinstall the side panels




Locate the side panels in their mountings.
Press the panels forward to secure them properly.
Turn the locking screw 1/4 of a turn.
