Front Bumper: Service and Repair

Bumper front, replacing

Preparatory work
If the car is equipped with headlamp wipers, remove the wiper arms. See Wiper arm, headlamp, replacing Service and Repair.

Removing the front bumper




Remove the left and the right trim strip.





Remove:
- the 2 screws. Use a 13 mm long socket
- the 6 clips, on the upper side of the casing
- the 2 clips on the underneath of the bumper (5).




Slacken off the 1 screw (2) leaving it held in place by 3 threads.
Press in the screw so that the screw head bottoms out and the slide mounting releases.
Separate the connector for the fog lamp.
Repeat on the other side.




Pull the bumper forward while pulling both the sides outwards so that the edges release from the slide mounting.

Hint: This operation is easier with two people.

Transferring components





Cars with fog lamps:
Cut out the embossed cover (1). Cut around the outer marking (2).
Cut a groove around the marking partway through the thickness. This is done to make a marking to follow when cutting.
Carefully cut through the rest of the cover.
Remove the cut out cover and trim the edges if necessary.

Hint: Use a hot knife.

Transfer the fog lamps. See Fog lamps, front, replacing Fog Lamps, Front, Replacing.





Transfer:
- the radiator grille. See Radiator grille, replacing Service and Repair
- the center trim strip
- the license plate holder and the license plate.

Installing the front bumper

Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame.




Align the lugs (3) on the bumper in the channels (4) on the slide mounting. Press at the top so that the lugs secure.
Press in the bumper cover as far as it will go.
Install the 2 M8 screws. Tighten.

Hint: This operation is easier with two people.




Tighten the 2 screws for the sliding mounts. Ensure that the slide mountings engage the bumper cover.

Install:
- the 6 clips, on the upper side of the casing
- the connectors for the fog lamps
- the two clips on the underside of the bumper
- the left and the right trim strip.

Finishing
Install the wiper arms if the car is equipped with headlamp wipers. See Wiper arm, headlamp, replacing Service and Repair.
