Removal and Replacement
Throttle body (electronic throttle module (ETM)), replacing
Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
Removing
Disconnect the negative battery lead. Refer to: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting
Removing the charge air pipe and charge air hose
Remove the screws for the charge air pipe above the engine from the intake manifold.
Remove:
- the dipstick tube
- the charge air hose from the charge air cooler (CAC)
- the charge air pipe from the rubber connection on the turbocharger (TC).
Remove the charge air pipe and charge air hose.
Removing the fan shroud
Remove the inlet pipe to the air cleaner (ACL) housing.
Disconnect the 2 x connectors, for the engine cooling fan (FC).
Remove:
- The evaporative emission system (EVAP) valve from the engine cooling fan (FC) shroud
- the four tie straps that hold the cable harness secure at the fan shroud.
Note! Certain vehicles have three tie straps and a clip holding the cable harness at the fan shroud.
Lift out the hose for the expansion tank from the holders on top of the fan shroud
Remove both the screws holding the fan shroud
Carefully lift up the engine cooling fan (FC).
Removing the throttle body
Slacken off the hose clamp for the charge air pipe on the throttle body (TB).
Remove the charge air pipe from the throttle body.
Caution! The wiring to the throttle body must not be cut off. The throttle body may need to returned complete.
If the wiring to the throttle body is behind the bracket for the starter motor:
Slacken off the nuts (x 2).
Remove the screw.
Remove any tie straps and disconnect the connector for the throttle body.
Route the wiring for the throttle body from the reverse of the bracket for the starter motor.
Removing the throttle body screws
Remove the 4 x screws for the throttle body.
Installing
Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque Tightening Torque
Installing the throttle body
Install:
- the new throttle body with new gasket
- the 4 x screws to contact.
Position the wiring for the throttle body behind the bracket for the starter motor.
Install the screws in the cylinder block.
Tighten the 2 x nuts and the screws.
Connect the connector and install the tie strap.
Note! If the wiring was not behind the bracket for the starter motor, it must be secured along the cable duct by two tie straps.
Raise the car.
Remove the splashguard under the engine.
Tighten the 4 x screws for the throttle body.
Lower the car.
Install the charge air hose to the throttle body and tighten the clamp.
Installing the fan shroud
Carefully lower the fan shroud and align with the holders. Route the cable harness behind the holder (3).
Tighten both the mounting screws
Press the hose down from the expansion tank into the holder on the fan shroud
Secure the cable harness by the fan shroud using tie straps (1) and (2). See the illustration.
Install the evaporative emission system (EVAP) valve.
Connect the engine cooling fan (FC) connectors.
Installing the charge air pipe and charge air hose
Install:
- charge air hose/charge air pipe between the charge air cooler and rubber connection on the turbocharger (TC)
- both the screws for the charge air pipe on the intake manifold
- the intake manifold to the air cleaner (ACL) housing
- the intake manifold between the air cleaner (ACL) housing and the front panel.
Install:
- the dipstick tube
- the battery negative lead. Refer to: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting
Ordering and downloading software
Note! After reloading the electronic throttle module (ETM), the engine control module (ECM) must also be upgraded.
Order software for the electronic throttle module (ETM) reloading and program the new control module according to the table below.
Order software for engine control module (ECM) gasoline upgrading and program the control module according to the table below.
Finishing
Carry out a function test.
Set the clock.
