Brake disc rear, replacing

Removal

Removing the brake disc





Remove:
- the wheel
- the 2 mounting screws for the brake caliper holder. Hang the brake caliper from the spring using a wire
- the locating pin and the brake disc.

Note! In some cases the parking brake adjustment must be released in order to remove the brake disc.

Remove the panel covering the parking brake lever. See: Parking brake lever, replacing [1][2]Parking Brake Lever, Replacing.
Release the parking brake adjuster. See: Handbrake, brake shoes, replacing Service and Repair.

Cleaning and checking





Note! Cleaning is important to prevent lateral run out at the brake disc.

Clean the hub flange before installing the new brake disc.
Check the hub. If it is damaged, measure the lateral run out. See: Rear wheel hub, measuring lateral runout Rear Wheel Hub, Measuring Lateral Runout.
Check the brake pads.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque Tightening Torque.

Installing the brake disc





Note! Be careful when handling the new brake disc. Careless handling can cause damage to the brake disc (out-of-true).

Install:
- the new brake disc. Tighten the locating pin. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque
- the caliper holder. Use 2 new mounting screws. Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque.
Depress the brake pedal a few times. Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. Top up if necessary.

Note! The parking brake must be adjusted if the parking brake adjustment was released.

Install the wheel. See: Installing wheels Service and Repair.
