Replacement Procedure (Passenger)




CDD. Replacement Of Passenger Side Airbag Module

Dismantling







CDD1. Preparation
Make a note of any radio code.
Ignition off.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.


WARNING! When assembling turn the ignition key to position II. Then connect the battery negative lead. Make sure that no-body is inside the car when connecting the battery.


CDD2. Removal of glove compartment






Remove:

6 screws, Torx 20, from the lining of the glove compartment
The flap on the CD-ROM scanner (only for cars with the RTI system).


CDD3. Removal of ignition wire from the SRS airbag







WARNING! Make sure the battery is disconnected before removing or installing the connector. Never use an ohmmeter or any other charged measuring instrument on a disconnected, unreleased airbag module. There is a risk that the module could be released.

Remove the ignition wire from the passenger side airbag module.


NOTE: Be careful when disconnecting the ignition wire. There is a risk that the ignition wire will break if roughly handled.



CDD4. Removal of screws from SRS airbag







Remove 3 screws M6, 10 mm (0.4 inch), from the bottom of the passenger side airbag module. When installing, torque setting = 10 Nm (7.5 ft-lb).



CDD5. Removal of ventilation and loudspeaker grilles






Remove the ventilation and loudspeaker grilles by pulling them out using a hook or similar tool.




CDD6. Removal of cover panel






Remove 11 screws, Torx 20, from the cover panel.


CAUTION! When the cover panel with the unreleased passenger side air bag module is removed, position the cover panel with its top side upwards in a place where it will be protected from careless handling.


First remove the radio from the climate control system. Then push out the climate control system from the inside.




CDD7. Removal of SRS airbag from the cover panel






WARNING! Never use an ohmmeter or any other charged measuring instrument on a disconnected, unreleased airbag module. There is a risk that the module could be released.


CAUTION! Only the screws and nuts shown in the figure must be removed.


WARNING! Do not disassemble or repair the passenger side airbag module or install it in another vehicle.

Remove 6 screws M6, 10 mm (0.4 inch), from the passenger side airbag module. When installing, torque setting = 10 Nm (7.5 ft-lb).

Assembly

CDD8. Assemble in reverse order.
Then continue with final work.


WARNING! Before assembling, turn the ignition key to position II. Then connect the battery negative lead. Make sure that nobody is inside the car when connecting the battery.


Final Work







CDD9. SRS airbag date label


NOTE! Do not forget to replace the airbag date label on the driver's side B pillar with a new label.


The date label is supplied with the new passenger side airbag module.







CDD10. Final check


WARNING! Before connecting the battery, make sure that nobody is inside the car.


After Installing all the parts, do the following:
Turn the ignition key to position II
Connect the battery negative lead.


NOTE! Check that the SRS warning lamp is not broken by turning the ignition key to position II. The SRS warning lamp should come on and then go off after approximately 3 seconds.


Check that the SRS warning lamp in the combination instrument does not remain on. If the lamp remains on, use Volvo Aftersales Diagnostic and Information System (VADIS) and symptom entry or Volvo System Tester (VST) to find the diagnostic trouble codes.
