Reading Off Volvo On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System

Reading off Volvo on-board diagnostic (OBD) system

Reading and erasing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) can be read off and erased using this function. The on-board diagnostic (OBD) system can identify 16 faults through diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Description of scrolling values

Fuel level, value
Measurement range 0-70 liters (0-18.5 US gallon). The control module derives fuel volume from the signal from the fuel level sensor.

Engine coolant temperature, value
Measurement range -40 to +215 degrees Celsius (419°F). The control module further receives information about engine coolant temperature (ECT) from the engine control module (ECM).

Engine speed (RPM), value
Measurement range 0 - 8000 rpm. The control module receives information about engine speed (RPM) from the engine control module (ECM).

Fuel consumption, value
Measurement range 0-23.59 liters per hour (0-6.23 US gallons). The parameter is supplied in consumption per hour because the engine fuel consumption can then be measured when the engine is running but the vehicle speed is zero.
The control module receives information about fuel consumption from the engine control module (ECM).

D+ Charging, status
This value displays if the generator is charging the battery.
YES = Generator charging.
NO = Generator not charging.

Description of control module programming

Mileage, value
Measurement range 0-1048575 km or 0-651554 miles. The parameter can only be programmed once before the read off mileage exceeds 500 km or 310 miles.

Distance conditions service, value
Indicates the mileage which must be reached in order to light the service reminder indicator (SRI). A number of mileages are available for selection if the parameter is to be changed.

Time conditions service, value
Indicates the time which must be reached in order to light the service reminder indicator (SRI). A number of alternatives are available for selection if the parameter is to be changed.

Engine time conditions, value
Indicates the time the engine must have been running in order to light the service reminder indicator (SRI). A number of alternatives are available for selection if the parameter is to be changed.

Calibration fuel consumption, value
Measurement range -25 to +25%. Indicates current trip computer fuel consumption function calibration. If the trip computer displays too low a value it can be corrected by selecting a suitable positive value. Too high a value is corrected with a suitable negative value.

Description of activation components/functions

Lamps and needles
The combined instrument panel lamps flashes and the gauge needles sweep from minimum to maximum in 16 seconds.
The following components are activated at the same time:

Gauges
- Speedometer
- Fuel gauge
- Temperature gauge
- Tachometer

Lamps
- Low washer reservoir level
- Low fuel level
- ROPS or Cruise control
- Bulb failure warning sensor
- Low brake fluid level
- Parking brake on (does not flash if the parking brake is on)
- Low engine coolant level
- Service reminder indicator (SRI)
At activation, the gauges oscillate between minimum and maximum at the same time as the warning lamps flash. In the trip odometer display window, all figures 111111, 222222, 333333 etc. are calculated. Note that the upper left segment in the clock's first digit is missing. At the same time, the 12-pulse vehicle speed signal from the combined instrument panel is activated, corresponding to a speed of approximately 100 km/h (62.1 mph). The sound signal is activated on combined instrument panels with acoustic speed warning.

Calibrating the fuel level warning lamp
The fuel level sensor can be calibrated so that the low fuel level warning lamp lights up at the right level.
