Check the TRACS Circuit Closing Switch [Z]

Z. Check the TRACS circuit closing switch

ZA. Fault-tracing information

Condition

- DTCs not posted
- Fault is permanent

Possible source

- Signal cable break
- Detective bulb in the instrument panel
- Detective TRACS circuit switch
- Detective instrument panel.

Fault-tracing begins with ZB. Check the TRACS circuit switch.

ZB. Check the TRACS circuit switch

[ZB1]

Check the activation with the TRACS circuit switch

- Ignition on.
- Press the TRACS circuit switch and keep it pressed In.

Check that the TRACS warning light is activated.

Is the warning light activated ?

Yes: ZB11
No: ZB2

[ZB2]

Check the signal to the TRACS circuit switch

- Ignition off.
- Loosen the TRACS circuit switch and disconnect it.
- Ignition on.

Connect an ohmmeter between TRACS switch connector connection 1 and ground.

The voltmeter should indicate the approx. battery voltage.

If reading is OK: ZB8
If reading is incorrect: ZB3

[ZB3]

Check the signal cable

- Ignition off.
- Free the instrument panel as per Instrument panel (dashboard).

Connect an ohmmeter between TRACS circuit switch connector connection 1 and instrument panel connection A29.

The ohmmeter should indicate approx. 0 ohms.

If reading is OK: ZB4
If reading is incorrect:ZB7

[ZB4]

Check the bulb

Check that the bulb in the instrument panel is intact.

Is the bulb intact?

Yes: ZB5
No: ZB6

[ZB5]

Replace the component

Test with a new instrument panel.

Then continue with: ZB15

[ZB6]

Replace the component

Replace the bulb.

Then continue with: ZB15

[ZB7]

Check for cable breaks

Check the cable between instrument panel connection A29 and TRACS circuit switch connector connection 1 for breaks as per [IIIB2]. Check Communication to Control Module [III]

Then continue with: ZB15

[ZB8]

Check the ground cable to the TRACS circuit switch

- Ignition off.
- TRACS circuit switch disconnected.

Connect an ohmmeter between TRACS circuit switch connector connection 5 and ground.

The ohmmeter should indicate approx. 0 ohms

If reading is OK: ZB9
If reading is incorrect: ZB10

[ZB9]

Replacement of component

Test with a new TRACS circuit switch.

Then continue with: ZB15

[ZB10]

Check for cable breaks

Check the cable between TRACS switch connection 5 and contact point 31/50 for breaks as per [IIIB2]. Check Communication to Control Module [III]

Then continue with: ZB15

[ZB11]

Connect the test box and check the contact points

Connect test box as per JJJA. Connect the test box Connect the Test Box [JJJ]

Then proceed to: ZB12

[ZB12]

Check the signal to the control module

- Ignition off.
- Control module disconnected.
- Ignition on.

Connect a voltmeter between #15 and #8 on the test box.

The voltmeter should indicate the approx. battery voltage.

If reading is OK: ZB13
If reading is incorrect: ZB14

[ZB13]

Check for contact resistance and oxidation as the cause of the fault

The fault has been caused by poor contact in the control module connector.

Take appropriate action for contact resistance and oxidation in the control module connector as per [IIIB5]. Check Communication to Control Module [III]

Then continue with: ZB15

[ZB14]

Check for cable breaks

Check the cable between TRACS circuit switch connector connection 1 and control module #15 for breaks as per [IIIB2]. Check Communication to Control Module [III]

Then continue with: ZB15

[ZB15]

Verification

Hint: After repair, it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified.

- Ignition off.
- Reconnect the connections, components etc.
- Ignition off.

When the ignition is switched on, the control module activates the ABS warning light which goes out after approx. 2 seconds

Note! The warning light will not go out it a fault is registered in the control module.

Press the TRACS circuit switch, keep it pressed in and check that the TRACS warning light is activated.

Is the warning light activated ?

Yes: Fault corrected
No: ZB16

[ZB16]

Fault-tracing Information

The fault should now have been diagnosed and corrected. Since this is not the case the fault-tracing has failed.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes: Fault not corrected
No: ZB1
