Wiper Motor: Testing and Inspection

Wiper Motor Alternating Park Position Function, Deactivating

The windshield wiper system is equipped with the APP function (alternating park position).

The APP function causes the wiper at every second wiper shut off to move upward slightly after reaching the lowest position.

To install the motor crank on the wiper motor and wiper arm, it is necessary to shut off the motor in the lowest park position. APP function must be activated to ensure this.

An activation of APP function is not possible.

APP function is automatically activated after 100 wiping cycles. This applies to wiper motors in which the APP function was deactivated as well as for new wiper motors.

- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester. Refer to=> [ Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information Systems ] Testing and Inspection.

- In the vehicle diagnostic tester, select "guided fault finding".

- Using the "Go to" button, select the "function/component selection" and the following menu options in sequence:

Body

Electrical Equipment

01 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems

09 - Vehicle electrical system control module J519

09 - Vehicle electrical system control module functions

09 - Coding windshield wiper motor control module/APP deactivated

- Read out the current coding and note the value.

- Code the control module with the read-out value.

The read-out value can vary from the input options for the new code in the number of characters. This is insignificant and has no effect upon the function of the windshield wiper system. The new coding only resets the wipe cycle counter to zero.

To avoid complaints, inform the customer that the alternating park position is automatically activated again after 100 wipe cycles.
