Knee Airbag Bracket

Removal

The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions.

- Switch the ignition on.

- Disconnect the vehicle battery.

- Remove the side instrument panel cover on the driver side. Refer to => [ Side Instrument Panel Covers ] Side Instrument Panel Covers.

- Remove the left instrument panel trim on the driver side. Refer to => [ Driver Side Left Instrument Panel Trim ] Driver Side Left Instrument Panel Trim.

- Remove the driver footwell cover. Refer to => [ Footwell Covers ] Footwell Covers.

- Remove the right instrument panel trim on the driver side. Refer to => [ Front Passenger Side Right Instrument Panel Trim ] Front Passenger Side Right Instrument Panel Trim.

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the vehicle body or the door striker pin.

- Disconnect the harness connector from the knee airbag.

The harness connector is at the front on the tunnel side in the direction of travel.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 3 - (8 Nm).

- Remove the bracket and knee airbag - 2 - from the crossmember for the instrument panel.






Installation

- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

- Switch the ignition on.

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

- Connect the vehicle battery.
