Cylinder Head Cover Overview






Cylinder Head Cover Overview

The illustration shows the cylinder head cover for cylinder bank 2 (left side).






1 Cylinder Head Cover Gasket

Replace if damaged or leaking.

2 Cylinder Head Cover

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] Cylinder Head Cover.

3 Bolt

9 Nm

Replace if damaged or leaking.

Tighten diagonally, starting from the inside and working toward the outside and in steps.

4 O-ring

Always replace.

5 Oil Filler Neck

To remove, lift the tab, turn the oil filler neck to the left and remove it.

6 Seal

Replace if damaged or leaking.

7 Seal

Replace if damaged or leaking.

8 Cap

9 Nut

10 Nm

For the tensioning plate.

10 High Pressure Line

Note the rules of cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions and Fuel System Work Instructions ] Clean Working Conditions and Fuel System Work Instructions.

Mark the assignment of the high pressure lines to the injectors.

Do not change the angles of the high pressure lines.

Tighten the high pressure lines to the fuel rail using a 19 mm wrench. Refer to => [ Tightening the High Pressure Line to the Fuel Rail using a 19 mm Wrench ].

Tighten the high pressure lines to the fuel rail using a 14 mm wrench. Refer to => [ Tightening the High Pressure Line to the Fuel Rail using a 14 mm Wrench ].

Tighten the high pressure lines to the fuel injector. Refer to => [ Tightening the High Pressure Line to the Fuel Injector using a 17 mm Wrench ].

11 Fuel Return Line

Note the rules of cleanliness. refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions and Fuel System Work Instructions ] Clean Working Conditions and Fuel System Work Instructions.

12 O-ring

Always replace.

13 Bolt

5.5 Nm

Sealing cap to cylinder head cover.

14 Tensioning Plate

Injectors and tensioning plates that have been removed and are being reinstalled may only be installed to the same cylinder.

If the injector is being replaced, then the tensioning plate must also be replaced.

15 Bolt

9 Nm

16 Bracket

For electrical connectors.

Different versions available, for allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

17 Injector

Note the rules of cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions and Fuel System Work Instructions ] Clean Working Conditions and Fuel System Work Instructions.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] Cylinder Head Cover.

The high pressure line and tensioning plate must be replaced when replacing the injector.

18 Bolt

9 Nm

19 Bracket

For the wiring harness.

20 O-ring

Always replace.

21 Copper Sealing Ring

Always replace.

Tightening the High Pressure Line to the Fuel Rail using a 14 mm Wrench





- Tighten the high pressure fuel line union nuts to the fuel rail hand tight.

- Make sure the high pressure lines are seated stress free.

- Tighten the high pressure lines using the torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331) and the socket 14 mm (3150).

Tightening specification: 28 Nm.

Tightening the High Pressure Line to the Fuel Rail using a 19 mm Wrench





- Tighten the high pressure fuel line union nuts to the fuel rail hand tight.

- Make sure the high pressure lines are seated stress free.

- Tighten the high pressure lines using the torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331) and tool insert AF 19 (V.A.G 1331/5).

Tightening specification: 28 Nm.

Tightening the High Pressure Line to the Fuel Injector using a 17 mm Wrench





- Tighten the union nuts for the high pressure fuel lines hand tight.

- Make sure the high pressure fuel lines are seated free of stress.

- Tighten the high pressure lines to the injectors using the torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331) and the ratchet, reversible (V.A.G 1331/1) and socket (T40055).

Tightening specification: 28 Nm.
