Coolant Thermostat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining ] Coolant, Draining.

- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Remove the bolt - 1 - and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) coolant thermostat out of the coolant thermostat.






• Ignore - 2 and 3 -.

- Reposition the clamp - 1 - and remove the coolant hose.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the coolant thermostat.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

• Replace the O-ring.

- Clean the sealing surfaces.

- Install the coolant thermostat and bolts. Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm.

- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Filling ] Coolant, Filling.
