Parking Brake Actuator: Service and Repair
Parking Brake Motor
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Vehicle Diagnostic Tester (VAS 5051)
• Diagnostic Cable (VAS 5051/1) or (VAS 5051/3)
Removing
• Do not disconnect the connectors from the parking brake motors.
• The electro-mechanical parking brake not actuated.
(VAS 5051) , connecting and selecting functions, refer to => [ VAS 5051, Connecting and Selection Functions ] Testing and Inspection.
- Select the electro-mechanical parking brake and then "Moving piston of parking brake motor out and in".
- Move the parking brake motors into its installed position with the (VAS 5051).
• Turn the parking brake adjusting nut back if this is not possible.
- Remove the rear wheel.
- Remove brake caliper and suspend with wire so that the weight of the caliper does not cause any stress or damage to the brake line.
- Remove the brake disc/brake drum.
• Mark the brake shoes when removing them if they are going to be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!
- Remove the brake shoes. Refer to => [ Parking Brake Shoes ] Parking Brake Shoes.
• If the parking brake motor is going to be used again, then secure with a cable tie to the mounts in the brake show to keep it from turning.
- Secure the mounts in the parking brake motor from turning using a cable tie - 2 -.
- Remove the brake carrier plate.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the parking brake motor.
- Remove the electric wire for the parking brake motor from the clip and then remove the clip.
- Remove both internal multipoint bolts - arrows - from the parking brake motor - 1 -.
- Remove the parking brake motor.
Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal.
- Perform a basic setting on the electro-mechanical parking brake.
