Radiator: Service and Repair






Radiator

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306) or

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant:

The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm.

Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes and scalding.

Reduce pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a cloth and carefully opening.

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the air filter (engine cover). Refer to => [ Air Filter and Engine Cover ] Air Filter and Engine Cover.

- Remove the intake hose - 4 - between the throttle valve control module (J338) and air filter. To do so, disconnect the hose - 1 -, if present, and the hose - 2 - (compress the securing ring) and remove the spring clamp - 3 -.






- Remove the intake air scoop bolts - arrows - and scoop from the lock carrier.






- Remove the fan shroud with the fans. Refer to => [ Fan Shroud and Fans ] Fan Shroud and Fans.

- Open the spring clamps - arrows - and remove the coolant hoses from the radiator.






- Remove the front bumper cover.

To prevent damage to the Air Conditioning (A/C) condenser and the refrigerant lines, do not stretch, kink or bend the pipes and hoses.

- Remove the air guides - 3 - at the bottom.






- Remove the bolts - 1 - from the A/C condenser.

- Remove the bolts - 2 - from the radiator mounts.

- Push the radiator to the rear and remove the radiator mounts => [ (Item 9) Mount ] Radiator and Fan Shroud Overview.

- Remove the radiator from its mounts => [ (Item 10) Mount ] Radiator and Fan Shroud Overview in the lock carrier.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Service and Repair.
