Radiator and Fan Shroud Overview
• When the engine is warm the cooling system is under pressure. If necessary release pressure before beginning any repair work.
• Install only approved clamps for securing hose connections, refer to the Parts Catalog.
• Use spring-type clip pliers to installing spring clips.
• Always replace gaskets and seals.
• The arrows on coolant pipes and coolant hoses must line up across from each other.
• Spring clamps secure the coolant hoses to the radiator.
• Coolant hose connection diagram. Refer to => [ Coolant Hose Connection Diagram ] [1][2]Cooling System.
1 Coolant Hose
• From the rear coolant pipe.
2 Radiator
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Radiator ] Service and Repair.
• After replacing, replace the entire amount of coolant.
3 Upper Seal
4 Cap
• Check using the cooling system tester (V.A.G 1274 B) and adapter (V.A.G 1274/9). Refer to => [ Cooling System, Checking for Leaks ] Testing and Inspection.
• The pressure relief valve must open at 1.4 to 1.6 bar.
5 Expansion Tank
• Perform a leak test on the cooling system using the cooling system tester (V.A.G 1274 B) and the adapter (V.A.G 1274/8). Refer to => [ Cooling System, Checking for Leaks ] Testing and Inspection.
6 Connector

• 2 Nm
8 Bolt
• 5 Nm
9 Mount
• For the radiator.
10 Mount
• Inserted in the lock carrier.
11 Lower Seal
12 Fan Shroud
13 Nut
• 5 Nm
14 Bolt
• 5 Nm
15 Coolant Fan 2 (V177)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fan Shroud and Fans ] Fan Shroud and Fans.
16 Connector
17 Coolant Fan (V7)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fan Shroud and Fans ] Fan Shroud and Fans.
• With the coolant fan control module (J293).
18 Lower Coolant Hose
• From the connection on the flange.
19 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on Radiator (G83)
20 O-ring
• Always replace.
21 Retaining Clip
• Make sure it is secure.
22 Upper Coolant Hose
• From the coolant thermostat housing to the cylinder head.
