Hydraulic System, Bleeding

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit (VAS 5234) or (V.A.G 1869)

Bleed the hydraulic system after working on the hydraulic clutch mechanism.

Be careful not to get any brake fluid on the longitudinal member or on the transmission when performing the following work.

It is not necessary to pre-fill the system.

Before bleeding, fill the brake fluid reservoir to the "MAX" mark with brake fluid.

The clutch pedal is in the neutral position and is not pressed.

Brake fluid: allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

- Remove the air filter housing.

- Connect the brake charger/bleeding unit (VAS 5234) or (V.A.G 1869).

Use the bleeder hose (670 mm) (V.A.G 1238/B3).

- Connect the bleed hose to the brake bleeder unit collector bottle.

- Connect the bleeder hose - A - to breather assembly - arrow -.






- Turn on the brake charger/bleeding unit.

- Apply 2 bar pressure to the system.

- Open the breather valve approximately 1/4 turn.

- Press the clutch pedal manually 15 to 20 times very quickly from stop to stop.

- Close the breather valve and turn off the bleed unit.

- After completing the bleeding procedure, and the pressure has dropped from 2 bar, press the clutch pedal an additional 10 times by foot.

- Install the air filter housing.
