DSG(R) Oil, Draining and Filling

Use the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG(R)) oil available as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Catalog.

Short Description

First, the oil temperature is read out. If it is higher than 50 °C (122 °F), then allow the transmission to cool down.

Turn off the engine, remove the overflow tube and drain any oil. Reinstall the overflow tube and "overfill" the oil.

Start the engine and drain any excess oil until the level has reached the overflow tube.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, for example (VAS 5051 B)

Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)

Requirements

The engine is off.

The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.

The noise insulation is removed, if necessary

The selector level is in the "P" position

The vehicle diagnostic tester is connected

The oil should not be warmer than 45 °C (113 °F) when starting the procedure.

- Follow the rules of cleanliness when working on the transmission.

- Only use the DSG(R) oil available as a replacement part. Other oils can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.

Risk of injury due to hot oil.

- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions.

- Select DSG transmission.

- Select Check Fluid Level.

Allow the transmission to cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).

Do not start the engine if there is no oil in the transmission.

- Engine off - do not start!

Place the drip tray or used oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.

- Remove the oil drain and check plug - arrow -.






A black plastic overflow tube is located in this hole (with a 8 mm hex socket head). Its length determines the oil level in the transmission.

- Remove the overflow tube - arrow - and allow the oil to drain.






About 5 liters of oil will drain out.

- Reinstall the overflow tube and tighten it to 3 Nm.

- Install the quick release coupling from the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) into the plug hole hand tight.






- Shake the container before opening.






- Connect the container to the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A). Be sure to read the instructions. Refer to => [ Note the following information: ] DSG(R) Oil Level, Checking.

- Connect the oil filler adapter (VAS 6262) to the quick release coupling.

- Fill with 5.5 liters of oil.

- To change containers, close the shut off valve or hold the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) higher than the transmission.

- Install and tighten the oil drain and check plug - arrow - hand tight only.






- Start the engine.

- Press the brake pedal and select each selector lever position for approximately 3 seconds, then move the selector lever back into the "P" position.

- Do not turn off the engine.

- Check the oil level and add oil as necessary. Refer to => [ DSG(R) Oil Level, Checking ] DSG(R) Oil Level, Checking.
