Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair






Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Seal Remover (3203)

Counter Holder (3415)

Assembly Tool (T10053)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Removing

- Remove the toothed belt. Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] Toothed Belt.

- Remove the crankshaft toothed belt gear. Use the counter support (3415) to keep the toothed belt gear from moving.






- To guide the seal remover (3203) , thread the center bolt into the crankshaft by hand until it stops.

- Unscrew the inner portion of the seal puller 2 rotations (approximately 3 mm) from the outer portion and secure with the knurled thumb screw.

- Lubricate the seal remover threaded head.

- Install the seal puller as far as possible into the seal.






- Loosen the knurled thumb screw and turn the inner portion against the crankshaft until the seal is pulled out.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

The sealing lip of the seal may not be additionally be oiled or greased.

- Remove any oil residue on the crankshaft journal using a clean cloth.

- Position the guide sleeve (T10053/1) on the crankshaft.






- Slide the seal over the guide sleeve onto the crankshaft.

- Press the seal in all the way using the thrust sleeve (T10053) and the center bolt.






- Install the crankshaft toothed belt gear - item 2 - in the => [ Sealing Flange Overview ] Sealing Flange Overview.

- Install the toothed belt. Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] Toothed Belt
