Procedure
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route all wires and lines so that the original path is followed.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
Danger of causing damage to the coupling element:
• Do not bend the coupling element more than 10°.
• Do not stretch the coupling element.
• Do not damage the wire mesh on the coupling element.
• The subframe bolts may only be loosened when the engine is supported in the installed position using the engine support bridge (10-222 A).
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to => [ Engine Cover ] Engine Cover.
- Remove the plenum chamber cover.
When Working on the Transmission Side
- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to => [ Air Filter Housing ] Air Filter Housing.
• To perform this procedure, the ground cable must be disconnected from the battery. Check if a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain the anti-theft code beforehand.
- Remove the battery, the battery tray bolts - arrows - and the tray.
Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
• Observe measures for disconnecting the battery.
When Working on the Belt Pulley Side
- Remove the coolant expansion tank bolts - 3 -.
- Disconnect and remove the connector for the coolant expansion tank - 2 -.
- Lay the coolant expansion tank - 2 - on the engine.
Very hot fuel can burn your skin.
• The temperature of the fuel lines and may reach 100 °C (212 °F) after stopping the engine. Allow the fuel to cool down before opening any line connections otherwise there is a danger of scalding.
• Wear protective gloves.
• Wear safety glasses.
- Disconnect the fuel line couplings - A and B - and remove the fuel lines.
- Unclip the coolant hose bracket - 1 -.
- Free up the fuel lines.
- Remove the fuel filter housing - 7 - bolts and nut - 1 through 3 - and lay them on the engine.
• Observe the following information.
- Disconnect the connector from the differential pressure sensor - 2 -.
- Remove the bolts - 1 -.
- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the engine bung set (VAS 6122).
- Unclip the wires for the differential pressure sensor and mount - 1 - from the upper toothed belt guard.
- Lay the differential pressure sensor and mount on the particulate filter.
Continuation for All
- Press the release buttons and remove the crankshaft housing ventilation hose - 1 - from the cylinder head cover.
- Disconnect the connector and remove it from the crankcase ventilation hose - 1 -.
- Free up the vacuum hose - arrows - on the air guide pipe.
- Remove the bolt - 2 - and tilt the air guide pipe with the intake hose backward and remove it from the turbocharger.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - from the left and right lock carrier brackets.
- Remove the lower mounts from the adapters (10-222 A/28) and replace them with the adapters (10-222 A/28-2).
- Remove the bolts - arrows - from the adapters (10-222 A/28-2).
• Use the bolts from the adapters (10-222 A/28-2) for securing the adapters (10-222 A/28). Do not use the bolts for the lock carrier bracket.
- Install the adapters (10-222 A/28) and tighten the bolts - arrows -.
• Bolt - arrows - tightening specification: 8 Nm
