Right Flange Shaft, Seal and Sleeve, One Piece

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Thrust Piece (T10148)

• Spindle from Seal Installer Set - Rear Diff (3066)

• Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)

• Additional Part for VW 771 (VW 771/37)

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

• Drip Tray

Removing

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Turn the steering wheel as far as possible toward the right.

- Remove the drive axle heat shield - arrows - and shield, if equipped.





- Remove the drive axle - 1 - from the flange shaft.





- Tie the drive axle as high up as possible. Be careful not to damage the paint on the drive axle.

- Place the drip tray under the transmission and engine.

- On diesel engines only, remove the turbocharger oil return line - arrow - from the engine.

- Remove the bolt for the flange shaft, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.





- Remove the flange shaft and the pressure spring.

- Replace the seal and the sleeve together.





A ridge is located on the internal diameter of the sleeve.

- Attach the (VW 771/37) directly behind the ridge inside the sleeve.

- Using force, push the (VW 771/37) into the sleeve.

Installing

- Clean the seal seat inside the transmission.

- Install the seal and the sleeve together.





A Install the spindle from the (3066) into the threaded piece in the differential.
B M12 nut

- Turn the nut - B - and pull the seal with the sleeve all the way over the (T10148).

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip half way with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Install the flange shaft.

- Install the flange shaft bolt.

- On diesel engines only, install the turbocharger oil return line - arrow - to the engine.





- Install the drive axle - 1 - to the flange shaft.

- Install the drive axle heat shield and bolts - arrows -, if equipped.






- Check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling ] Service and Repair.

- Install the noise insulation.
