Fuel Tank and Attachments Overview
1 Bolt
2 Ground Connection
• Make sure it is secure.
3 Vacuum Line
• To the leak detection pump (V144).
• Not on available on the MY 12 GLI.
4 Bolt
• 11 Nm
5 Rivet
6 Protective Plate
• Riveted to the lower clamp at the factory.
• When replacing the fuel tank, set the protective plate on the filler tube and rivet the clamp (holes on protective plate must coincide with holes on filler tube).
7 Wiring Router
• For the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) wire.
• Clipped onto the protective plate.
8 Bolt
• 26 Nm
• Always replace.
• Only use bolts with loose washers to secure the fuel tank straps. The straps could twist when the bolts are tightened if other bolts are used. Bolt allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.
9 Fuel Tank
• Draining, refer to => [ Fuel Tank, Draining ] Fuel Tank, Draining.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.
10 Retainer
11 Exhaust System Bracket
• For the exhaust system.
• Replace if damaged.
12 Tensioning Strap
• Pay attention to the installed position.
13 Heat Shield
14 Fuel Supply Line
• Black
• Make sure it is secure.
• Push in the securing ring to disconnect.
• To the fuel rail.
15 Fuel Filter
• Direction of flow is marked with an arrow.
• Do not interchange the connections.
• Fuel filter overview. Refer to => [ Fuel Filter Overview ] Fuel Filter Overview.
• Installed position: The pin on the filter housing must engage in the recess in the filter bracket. Refer to => [ Fuel Filter Installed Position ] Fuel Filter Overview.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Filter ] Fuel Filter.
16 Vacuum Line
• From the leak detection pump (V144) to the intake manifold.
• Attached to the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is secure
• Not available on the MY 12 GLI.
17 Vent Line
• From the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister to the EVAP canister purge regulator valve 1 (N80)
• Attached to the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is secure.
18 Seal
• Always replace.
• Install the seal into the fuel tank opening dry.
• Only lubricate the inner part with fuel when installing the fuel delivery unit.
19 Fuel Delivery Unit
• Note the installed position in the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit Installed Position ].
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit.
• Checking the fuel pump. Refer to => [ Fuel Pump, Checking ] Fuel Pump, Checking.
• With the fuel level sensor (G).
• Fuel level sensor removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor (G) ] Removal and Replacement.
• Clean the screen if it is dirty.
20 Lock Ring
• 110 Nm
• Make sure it is secure.
• Remove and install using the wrench (T10202).
21 Fuel Return Line
• Blue
• Attached to the side of the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is secure.
• Push in the securing ring to disconnect.
22 Cap
• Engine code CCTA: with a threaded connection
• Engine code CBFA: with a bayonet connection
• Replace the seal if damaged.
23 Fuel Filler Door Unit
• With a rubber cup.
24 To the EVAP Canister
25 Fuel Supply Line
• Black
• Attached to the side of the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is secure.
• Push in the securing ring to disconnect.
Fuel Delivery Unit Installed Position
The tab - 2 - on the fuel delivery unit must lie between the tabs - 1 and 3 -.
• The - arrow - points in the direction of travel.
• The fuel delivery unit can only be installed in this position.
