• Release Tool For Cigarette Lighter (T40148)
• Thrust Piece (T40148/1)
The following procedures apply to Left Rear Cigarette Lighter (U3) , Right Rear Cigarette Lighter (U7) , Rear Cigarette Lighter (U9) , 12V outlet 2 (U18) , 12V outlet 3 (U19) , 12V outlet 4 (U20) , Cigarette Lighter 2 (U25) and 12V outlet 5 (U26) with illumination.
Using force to remove Sockets (U) without Socket Illumination Bulb (L42) can result in damage to the mounting sleeve retainers.
Only Sockets (U) ( Cigarette Lighter (U1) ) with a Socket Illumination Bulb can be removed using the (T40148).
The (T40148) cannot unlock the tabs on Sockets without illumination.
Sockets without a Socket Illumination Bulb will usually get damaged when being removed.
• The procedure for removing and installing is the same for all Sockets (U) and is only described for the cigarette lighter socket.
Removing
- Disconnect the battery (A).
- Remove the cigarette lighter from the socket.
• The illustration shows the socket removed.
The socket or mounting sleeve can be damaged.
Make sure the (T40148) is seated properly or the mounting sleeve retainers will not release.
- Slide the (T40148) - arrow - into the outlet so that the tabs - 1 - engage in the openings - 2 -.
- Release the mounting sleeve retainers by pulling on grip piece - 3 - in direction of - arrow -.
- Remove the outlet out of the mounting sleeve using the (T40148).
The wiring for the socket could get damaged.
Pay attention to the lengths of the electrical wires when removing the outlet.
Depending on the installed location, it is recommended to use the (T40148/1) - 2 - with the knurled nut - 1 -.
Be careful not to damage any of the surrounding components when using the (T40148/1).
- Release and disconnect the connector for the socket.
• There are different versions of the socket and cigarette lighter outlet due to different mounting locations and construction. The differences are primarily In the length and type of electrical connectors. On socket and cigarette lighters with an trailing cable pig tail, additional work may be necessary to access the connector.
- Release the (T40148) by pressing the spindle - 1 - in the - direction of the arrow B -. Release the (T40148) - 2 - by turning a little bit to the left in the - direction of the arrow A -. Remove the (T40148) from the socket.
• Make sure the tabs on the (T40148) are not spread.
The Cigarette Lighter (U1) could be ejected from the Socket (U) when the heating cycle is complete.
Inserting the (T40148) into the socket spreads the socket retainer springs and reduces their ability to retain the cigarette lighter insert.
After removing the socket, bend the retainer springs together carefully to tighten them and make sure the cigarette lighter remains in the socket when the heating cycle is complete.
- Carefully press the spring for the socket together - arrows -.
- Make sure the cigarette lighter insert is not ejected completely into vehicle interior on completion of glow cycle, and remains in receptacle.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
- Connect the battery (A).
