Coolant Thermostat






Coolant Thermostat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

T Bar and Socket 10 mm (3185)

Refractometer (T10007)

Hex Ball Socket (T10058)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Hose Clip Pliers (6362)

Removing

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.

- Remove the throttle valve control module. Refer to => [ Intake Manifold and Attachments Overview ] Intake Manifold and Attachments Overview.

- Remove the coolant hose from the connecting piece.

- Loosen the bolts - 4 - for the connecting piece - 3 - using the T bar and socket 10 mm (3185) , and remove using the hex ball socket (T10058). Remove the connecting piece - 3 - with the coolant thermostat - 1 -.






- Rotate the coolant thermostat - 1 - 90° (1/4) to the left and remove it from the connecting piece - 3 -.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

Always replace seals, sealing rings and O-rings.

- Lubricate the new O-ring - 2 - with coolant.






- Insert the coolant thermostat - 1 - into the connecting piece - 3 - and turn it 90° (1/4) turn to the right.

The clip of the thermostat must be positioned at approximately a right angle.

- Position the connecting piece - 3 - with the coolant thermostat - 1 - to the cylinder block.

- Tighten the bolts - 4 - using the T bar and socket 10 mm (3185).

Tightening specification: 15 Nm.

- Install the coolant hose to the connecting piece.

- Install the throttle valve control module. Refer to => [ Intake Manifold and Attachments Overview ] Intake Manifold and Attachments Overview.

- Fill with coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
