Removing

- Switch off the ignition.

Vehicles with automatic transmission

- Loosen boot from the cover.

Vehicles with manual transmission and Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG)

- Loosen boot from the cover.

All vehicles

- Remove parking brake lever trim.

- Remove the trim in the center of the instrument panel (Jetta from MY 10, Golf Wagon from MY 10). Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Center Trim, Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010 ] Instrument Panel Center Trim, Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010.

- Remove the trim around the heating and A/C controls (Jetta from MY 10, Golf Wagon from MY 10). Refer to => [ Heating and A/C Control Trim, Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010 ] Heating and A/C Control Trim, Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010.

- Remove the center cover (Jetta from MY 10, Golf Wagon from MY 10). Refer to => [ Center Cover, Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010 ] Center Cover, Jetta from MY 2010 and Golf Wagon from MY 2010.

Vehicles without CD changer

- Remove lining mat - 1 - from storage compartment.

- Remove the "AUX IN socket" - 2 -.

- Remove the cover - 4 - from the mounts in storage compartment.

- Remove the bolt - 3 - (1.5 Nm).






Vehicles with CD changer.

- Remove the CD changer - 1 -.

- Remove lining mat - 2 - from storage compartment.

- Remove the bolt - 3 - (1.5 Nm).






Vehicles with converter with socket


There are condensers in the converter with socket, 12 V-230 V (U13) / converter with socket, 12 V-115 V (U27) housing that can be charged with a residual voltage.

There is a danger of being electrocuted.

In no case may the housing for the converter with socket, 12 V-230 V (U13) / converter with socket, 12 V-115 V (U27) be opened.


Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.

Remove the key.

Whenever removing and installing components that are visible (switches, cover, trim) where a pry tool ( trim removal wedge (VAS 3409) , screwdriver) is going to be used, cover the area around the component with tape.

No repairs may be performed on the connector, on the wires and on the 230 V socket.

The entire unit must be replaced if ever there is a malfunction in the connector, in the wires and in the 230 V socket or in the converter.

- Open the cover - 1 -.

- Remove the socket cover - 2 - (clipped on both sides of the socket) using a trim removal wedge (VAS 3409).

- Remove the two bolts - 3 -.

- Remove the inner socket - 4 -. To do this, both of the side brackets - 5 - must be loosened.






- Release and disconnect the connector - arrow -.






- Release the socket - 4 - at the tabs - arrows - and then remove the socket.






- Remove the screws - 2 and 3 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the converter - 1 -.

Vehicles with cupholder

- Open beverage holder - 1 - and remove two bolts - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Pull cup holder out of center console.

When installing, beverage holder must be inserted (first at bottom) into center console while in a closed state. Then it must be opened and then install the two bolts - 2 -.






All vehicles

- Remove trim panel - 1 - from mounts in lower area - arrow -.

- Remove trim panel from mounts in center console in upper area.






- Remove the "AUX IN socket" - 1 -.

- Remove bolts - 2 - and - 3 - (1.5 Nm).

- Release extension - 4 - from mounts in lower area.






- If the vehicle has a manual transmission, remove the noise insulation and shift mechanism - 3 - in the center console.

- Remove the two bolts - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the ashtray - 1 - from center console and (depending on vehicle equipment) disconnect the wiring harnesses.

The vehicle may have a storage compartment in place of an ashtray - 1 -. Removing the storage compartment is identical to removing the ashtray.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - (1.5 Nm).

- Pull left footwell trim - 2 - out of mounts.

Removal of right footwell trim is identical.

Be sure to install the footwell trim panel - 2 - into the retainer - 3 - first.






- Remove lining mat - 4 - from storage compartment.

- Remove the bolt - 5 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the two bolts - 3 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the two bolts - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the cover on the center console - 1 - - in direction of arrow -.

Install the bolts in the following sequence: - 2 -, - 5 - and - 3 -.






- Remove center console - 1 - from vehicle.

Make sure the center console - 1 - locks securely into the mounts in the instrument panel - arrows -.






- Remove bolts - 1 -, - 2 -, - 3 - and - 4 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove center console trim carrier - 5 - from vehicle.
