Fuel Tank and Attachments Overview

• Fuel hoses at the engine may only be secured with spring type clamps appropriate for the model type.

• Hose clip pliers (VAS 6340) or hose clip pliers (VAS 6362) are recommended for installing space saving clamps.






1 Supply Line

• Black

• Make sure it is secure.

2 Return Line

• Blue

• Make sure it is secure.

3 Seal

• Always replace.

• Install into the fuel tank dry.

• Lubricate with fuel only when installing the flange.

4 Fuel Delivery Unit

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit.

• Fuel pump checking. Refer to => [ Fuel Pump, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.

• Pay attention to the installed position on the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Installed Position of the Fuel Delivery Unit Flange and the Fuel Level Sensor 2 Flange ].

• With the fuel level sensor (G).

• Fuel level sensor removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor (G) ] Fuel Level Sensor (G).

• Clean the filter if it is dirty.

5 Lock Ring

• 110 Nm

• Make sure it is secure.

• Use the wrench (T10202) for removal and installation.

6 Fuel Filler Door Unit

• With a rubber cup.

7 Cap

• Replace if damaged.

8 Bolt

9 Ground Connection

• Make sure it is secure.

10 Bolt

• 10 Nm

11 Vent Tube

12 Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169)

13 Suction Jet Pump

• Clipped onto the fuel level sensor 2.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Suction Jet Pump ] Suction Jet Pump.

16 Fuel Tank

• Support the fuel tank using the engine-gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A).

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.

17 Securing Strap

• Pay attention to the installed position.

18 Bolt

• 25 Nm

• Always replace.

• Only use bolts with loose washers to secure the straps. The straps could twist when the bolts are tightened if other bolts are used. For the correct bolts, refer to the Parts Catalog.

19 Heat Shield

• Riveted to the exhaust system mounting parts.

20 Screw

• 3 Nm

21 Fuel Filter

• The arrow points in the direction of flow.

• Installed position, refer to => [ Fuel filter Installed Position ].

22 Vent Line

• Attached to the side of the fuel tank.

• Make sure it is secure.

The mark on the flange must align with the mark on the fuel tank - arrow -.

• The mark on the fuel tank is difficult to see.
