High Pressure Pump


Follow the safety measures for releasing the high side fuel pressure. Refer to => [ High Side Fuel Pressure, Releasing ] Service and Repair.

For safety reasons, remove the fuel pump control module fuse from the fuse panel before opening the fuel system. This prevents the fuel pump from being activated by the drivers door contact switch.

Do not disassemble the high pressure pump!

Read the safety precautions before starting. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Safety Precautions.

Pay attention to the rules of cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Removing

- Remove the engine cover with air filter. Refer to => [ Engine Cover with Air Filter ] Engine Cover With Air Filter.

- Set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC).

- Disconnect the connectors - 1 and 2 -.







The fuel supply line is under pressure. Always wear protective eyewear and protective clothing to prevent injuries and fuel from coming in contact with your skin. Lay a cloth at the connection points before loosening the hose connections. Then reduce the pressure by carefully removing the hose.

- Loosen both of the fuel lines at the high pressure pump.

- Open the hose clamp - 1 - and remove the fuel hose.






- Counter hold the connection - 2 - and remove the fuel pipe - 3 -.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and carefully remove the high pressure pump.






The cam follower can remain inserted in the cylinder head under some circumstances.

Installing

- Replace the O-ring for the high pressure pump and coat lightly with clean motor oil.

- Check the cam follower for damages and reinsert it into the cylinder head.

- Carefully attach the high pressure pump to the cylinder head and tighten the bolts - arrows - by hand.






- Attach the fuel pipe by hand.

Check the tightening specification for the threaded connection before installing the fuel pipes.

- Tighten all of the bolts to the required tightening specification, refer to => [ High Pressure Pump Overview ] High Pressure Pump Overview.

- Place the fuse for the fuel pump control module back into the fuse panel.

The rest of the installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
