Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant Pump

• Make sure when replacing the expansion tank and for maintenance work that there is always a silicate cartridge in the expansion tank, refer to the Parts Catalog. The silicate cartridge must not be removed.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

• Spring Type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024 A)

Removing


Hot steam may escape when opening the expansion tank cap. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes and scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and carefully open the cap.

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining and Filling ] Procedures.

- Remove the toothed belt. Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the coolant pump bolts - 1 - and remove the coolant pump - 2 -.






- Remove the O-ring - 3 -.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Replace the O-ring.

- Clean and/or smooth the O-ring sealing surface.

- Lubricate the new O-ring - 3 - with coolant.






- Install the coolant pump - 2 -.

• Installed position: The sealing plug in the housing points downward.

- Install the coolant pump bolts - 1 -.

- Install the toothed belt. Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] Service and Repair.

- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining and Filling ] Procedures.
