Oil Pump: Service and Repair






Oil Pump with Balance Shaft Drive

=> [ Chain Tensioner, Pre-tensioning ].

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Connecting Pin (T10027)

Silicone Sealant (D 176 404 A2)

Removing

- Remove the oil pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the protective plate. If necessary, release the retaining tabs - arrows - through the openings with a small screwdriver.






- Position the crankshaft in the Top Dead Center (TDC) position for cylinder 1.






Make sure there is a mark on the balance shaft chain sprocket aligned with the securing hole - arrow -. Mark the position with a waterproof marker if the mark is missing. The mark will be needed later when installing.






- Loosen the bolt for the oil pump chain sprocket. Counter hold the vibration damper center bolt.







The chain sprocket driving differential shafts must not be loosened!

- Release the tension on the chain rail using a screwdriver - arrow - and secure it using a 3 mm hex wrench - 1 -.






- Remove the chain sprocket from the oil pump and disengage the chain from the balance shaft drive.






- Remove the bolts - 1 and 2 - to remove the windage tray.






- Loosen the bolts for the balance shaft drive working from the outside toward the inside and remove it. Refer to => [ Oil Pump and Balance Shaft Drive ] Service and Repair.






Installing and Adjusting

The chain tensioner is pre-tensioned. Refer to => [ Chain Tensioner, Pre-tensioning ].

- Place the frame as shown onto the alignment sleeves - arrows - for the balance shaft drive.






- Install the oil pump with the balance shaft drive and the intermediate plate. Tighten the new bolts in a diagonal sequence working from the inside to the outside to 15 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.






Note the different length of the bolts. Refer to => [ Bolt Allocation for the Balance Shaft Drive ].

- Position the crankshaft in the TDC position for cylinder 1.






- The mark on the balance shaft chain sprocket - arrow - is aligned with the securing hole.






- Secure the chain sprocket in this position using the connecting pin (T10027). Place the chain onto the chain sprocket for the balance shaft.






- Install the chain sprocket for the oil pump and tighten the bolt by hand.

The oil pump chain sprocket fits only in one position. To install, only the oil pump must be rotated.

- Remove the connecting pin (T10027) and the 3 mm hex wrench - 1 -. Secure the chain sprocket for the oil pump (tightening specification: 20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn). Counter hold the central bolt for the vibration damper.






- Install the oil pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.

Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.

A M7 x 40 bolt
B M7 x 70 bolt
C M7 x 90 bolt
D M7 x 55 bolt
E Sealing plug with O-ring

Chain Tensioner, Pre-tensioning

- Tension the piston by hand, push in, in the - direction of the arrow -.






- Press the chain rail in the - direction of the arrow - and secure is using a 3 mm hex wrench - 1 -.
